White Paint Color to Cancel Green Cast?
Comments (7)I think it's smart you realized that the trees outside will be casting a color into your room, and altering the way you see the white. good job. I have no suggestions how to counteract that effect though. I thought (during my cream quest) that I did read some way to do what you are talking about. Was it to pick a white with a pink undertone? I can't remember, it was probably on Maria Killam's blog. You can shoot her an email, she said that answering "white" questions is easy and she doesn't mind. You'll just have to remember that when the leaves are gone, the room will have another "look" to it. Let us know what you find out! Maria's email: info@mariakillam.com...See MoreCancelled
Comments (25)I for one, do not believe Amber Heard at ALL. Furthermore, she is doing a grave disservice to ACTUAL victims of domestic violence. Women like her who lie for personal gain about such serious things are the reason real victims are so often not believed. As someone who HAS been physically assaulted by a former romantic partner, she makes me SICK. There are recordings of her arguing with Depp about how she HIT him, and her emphasizing that she HIT him, she did not PUNCH him. Victims do not make such a distinction. Offenders do. Violence is violence. She called him a baby for telling her to stop or bringing up the assault later. She also acknowledged that she would instigate physical fights and follow him from room to room when he tried to walk away and diffuse the situation. And made sarcastic condescending comments about he was such a good person for refusing to fight back. Um, yeah he is. I do not believe for one minute he ever assaulted her. Even the covert recordings she made of him losing his temper and slamming cabinets, he made NO MOVE to hurt HER. She has an arrest record for physically assaulting her ex wife, while Depps exes have publicly defended him. It is also a fallacy to believe that the vast majority of victims of DV are women. They make up the majority of REPORTED DV victims. Fact is, there is a stigma against men that if they are abused by women, they are weak. Add to the fact that people tend not to believe that a smaller, physically weaker woman could abuse a man and you have a perfect victim: that is a man that cannot fight back, either because he rightfully has no inclination to assault another person, or because of the fear that if he ever DID fight back, he would be labeled the villain, because as it has been shown here, people tend to believe that men abuse women quite quickly, but are skeptical when it is reported the other way around. She did cost him work and therefore money. Disney and Warner Brothers dropped him from huge projects, and they are paying for that now, as they should. There are talks among fans of boycotting Aquaman 2, because the studio refused to replace Heard, despite clear evidence of her lies and abuse. So the stars of that movie will suffer as well. All her lawyers have managed to do so far is show Depps past substance addiction issues, which he freely admitted to already. No one is suggesting that he is perfect. But NOTHING I have seen suggests that he is an abuser. NOTHING. Everything suggests to me that she was, then blatantly lied about it to gain attention and pity roles, the whole time damaging his name and affecting his work, and therefore his bottom line. And then having the nerve to take public speaking events posing as a survivor of abuse. This woman needs to absolutely pay him. The only thing I regret for Depp is that he never had her arrested. He should have....See MoreShould I cancel my plant order due to weeds?
Comments (19)Hi Nicole! I agree with most things said above. Brecks isn't the greatest company to deal with in terms of quality IMO. Thirty years ago maybe, but no longer. For bulbs I would recommend John Scheepers or Van Engelen, and perhaps Longfield Gardens. I've never bought bulbs from Longfield but I buy a lot of dahlias from them and actually have bought two peonies from them and they were nice healthy roots and are doing well. Whatever company you look at, check them out on garden watchdog. You can search for the company here to see reviews (not sure if you can see it but the words "garden watchdog" in the previous sentence is a link for you) I agree that bed is too narrow and should be deeper for peonies. I also would bring it out at least two feet. Lawns are very subjective, I understand. A beautiful lawn can really set off garden beds to great advantage. I do not have a beautiful lawn lol. But it is green for the most part. Like roxanna my "lawn" is grass, clover, weeds, wild strawberry-looking stuff, dandelions, mosses, (including some lovely huge swaths of hair cap moss), lichens on top of my mosses, violets, buttercups, bluets, etc. I only have so much time to devote to my yard and I prefer to give it to the garden beds. And the bees and other pollinators love my "lawn". But that's me and I realize you or your husband may want to spend time and money on the lawn (IME it seems to be a man thing to have a nice lawn lol). Lastly, imo, that bed has VERY few weeds. I realize you said you weeded for over an hour, but honestly I have beds that I have weeded for DAYS before getting them in shape lol. And weeds will never end, even if you stay on top of them and mulch heavily. I would not cancel my order for the reason you asked. Without seeing the rest of that bed, I'd say another half hour tops of weeding would suffice. Perhaps another two hours to widen the bed (but when THAT at least is done, it's done!) and you are good to go. Mulch heavily and that will help keep the weeds down. Okay, one more "lastly" lol. You may already know this so forgive me if I am preaching to the choir. But bulbs only bloom a short time and then die. (Peonies too (and any perennial) also have a limited bloom time, but the foliage will hopefully look good for you the rest of the season.) With bulbs you will have a bed full of dying foliage around your deck (and you need to keep that dying foliage there for the bulb's sake). And IME tulips don't come back reliably (and are deer food as well). You might consider either doing something other than bulbs completely, or perhaps trying daffodils instead. You'll still have dying bulb foliage but the daffs will return and likely even multiply over the years. (I put tulips in pots and treat them as annuals. A few pots ON the deck would be lovely.) If you are going to do bulbs, either tulips or daffs, perhaps consider putting some daylilies in front of them. The daylily foliage will grow as the bulb foliage is dying and help hide it. You could of course use other perennials as well but daylilies are a usual suspect for this purpose. Hostas may work too, and since the foliage is the main attraction, they will be a focal point all season, not just in bloom. Think about adding a handful of crocus right near the steps. It's so lovely to see their little blooms in late winter and know that spring is coming! Good luck and please keep us updated! We all love to see photos of progress! :) Dee...See MoreI need to cancel an order.
