Cleaning a mini bundt cake pan-of-six

I first learned about this pan release (sometimes called goop or pan goop or Better than Pam) in 2009 on the cooking forum, and have been using it with good results ever since.

One of my friends gave me her new mini bundt cake pan, as she is having issues with her hands and is unable to bake.

Tonight, I used it with the pan release, and the little cakes came out easily!

However, getting all the grooves and crevices cleaned out in the mini bundt pan is a challenge. After the pan cooled, I tried soaking it first, then using my hand and a paper towel to get out most of the residue, then I used a soft toothbrush, then the rubber tip end of the toothbrush, then my finger and a paper towel again. Is there an easier way of cleaning these types of mini pans?

Is that coated? Most bundt pans are non-stick (I have the roses one like yours). If so, a longer soak might have done it. After a good soak, I use a soft sponge and then let it hard dry. If there's any residue left--a spot or two--it flicks out with a fingernail.

I use an old fashioned nylon dish brush on my grill pan. It took me a long time to figure that out for the crevices. I'd recommend it for your pan--it would work--but I can't guarantee that it wouldn't affect the coating.

You might try applying a coat of DAWN Platinum Erasing Dish Foam (foam plus a little water to make it spread farther and stay wetter) and let it sit on the problem areas of the pan long enough to soften the baked-on crud, then clean as normal.

I have the 12-cup mini-Bundt pan similar to the one in your picture and use it all the time without the build-up problem. I spray my pans with Bakers & Chefs Cooking Spray making sure I carefully wipe off any over-spray that is on the flat surfaces before filling the pan. I've been using this cooking spray for around 20-years and don't have gunky pans, and I make all our baked goods all the time using somepans that are as much as 30-40 years old. I've also been cleaning my baking pans with the DAWN foam products since they came out on the market.

MLC in mini bundt pans

I doubt that the bundt pans will work. The heat going up the center would bake the lava part too much and you would just end up with chocolate cake. The rose pans might work if you reduce the time and watch very carefully. The trick will be in getting the MLC out. Individual pans or custard cups are really the easiest. Baked correctly, the cake part is pretty fragile and the inside like sauce. I've always removed mine directly onto each serving plate. Nancy

I love bundt cakes and I'm eager to try the Sour Cream Lemon cake. I make rum cake with a bundt pan. Yesterday, I made a dozen mini-bundt rum cakes for my dentist and his staff. I made one cake without nuts and he thanked me graciously as he thought I knew he had an allergy--I was just being cautious. Nothing new here but it is one of my favorites. Golden Rum Cake An easy way to glaze the cake is to pour half of the glaze into Bundt pan, reinsert cake, then pour the rest of glaze over the bottom of the cake. Let absorb well then invert back onto platter. 1 cup chopped pecans 1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix 1 (3.4 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding 4 eggs 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup walnut or vegetable oil 1/2 cup dark rum 1/2 cup butter 1/4 cup water 1 cup white sugar 1/2 cup dark rum (Appleton Estates is a recommended brand) 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10 inch Bundt pan. Sprinkle chopped nuts evenly over the bottom of the pan. 2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix and pudding mix. Mix in the eggs, 1/2 cup water, oil and 1/2 cup rum. Blend well. Pour batter over chopped nuts in the pan. 3. Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Let sit for 10 minutes in the pan, and then turn out onto serving plate. Brush glaze over top and sides. Allow cake to absorb glaze and repeat until all glaze is used. 4. To make the glaze: in a saucepan, combine butter, 1/4 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat and continue to boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 cup rum. Double the glaze and while the cake was still hot and in the pan, took a skewer and make little holes all over the cake. Poured half of the glaze in the holes while it cooled a bit in the pan. Inverted the cake and pour the rest of the glaze over it.

Thanks so much for the transport suggestions. But what do you think of leaving the cake at room temperature for 24 hrs? Should I refrigerate it? triciae, the first (and only!) time I made this cake it seemed a little fragile because the cake part didn't always get between the apples and the pan (I think I used too many apples). I was worried the apple layer would allow the cake to separate in layers. It didn't, but I'm still a little leary of doing the into and out of the pan more than is necessary for this cake. lpinkmountain, I'm not sure I have storage space for a cake keeper. I'll have to see if I can make some room in the pantry or other closets if I do get one. lindac, warmed up cake...what a great idea. This cake would taste really good warm and served with some vanilla ice cream. I know my sister would love it this way! Happy holidays everyone!

Wow, excellent ideas and suggestions!!! Many MANY thanks!!

I don't really know if the pan is non-stick, as it didn't come with any packaging, but I'll definitely check out using a soft sponge, AND using the DAWN foam products as well as Bakers & Chef's Cooking Spray!

I use a long handled dish brush for things like that - definitely soaking w/ detergent first is a big help for greasy stuff - this type is good for getting into crevices:

I put everything like that in the dishwasher, too, after soaking to soften the crumbs.

I have that same darn pan. Cake mixes turn out well and leave little debris behind. It's one of those pans that make a cute little cake, but I hate to clean them! I use a brush too, but will pick up some of that dawn foam!
