Lacanche Ranges Part 37
Comments (150)Our 9 month build became a 2 year project. Sigh. Why do we think we will always be the exception? I suspect we are all pretty particular about our projects-a reason we love this range. And I do love my range, my new house, my new kitchen. To those in process, you do eventually 'forget' the painful times. Joeboldt post was terrific. Covered many things I would consider important. Including the oven light-I keep a flashlight in the drawer beside the stove! I love the efficent size of my Cluny ovens and quickly adjusted to smaller cookie sheets. I bake a batch each week, and now bake fewer at a time. We are only 2 at home, but entertain frequently. I no longer need dozens in pantry. We prefer smaller turkeys. We usually cook two at a time. Eleven pounders are great. We like to do one in the bbq and one in the oven. Had an excellent Emeril brine this yr that made a heck of mess in the oven. I like a clean oven, but am not as obsessive as I was in the beginning. I appreciate the tip on the parchment with the pizza-hate the cornmeal mess, too.I cook with a lot of parchment, special order, cut to size for my cookie sheets. Hadn't thought to remove it part way through and feared the high heat so will try that. Did pizzas on the bbq during the summer and it was fun. Thanks for the reminder of the tech link. I have had burners that could use an adjustment-I have adjusted instead and love usuing my simmer plate during the winter-would be nice to adjust a burner lower for summer tho'. Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday season-this site was a great benefit to me during my long wait. I found it took about 6 months to get really comfortable in my new house and kitchen and today cannot think of anything I would change. Such a trauma to get there-and can't remember the things that didn't work out and those I had to eliminate. Enjoy-the food prep is such a special part of the season. Gives us great joy to share the experience with others....See MoreLaCanche Question
Comments (29)cinamom: I had never noticed the sharp edges you mentioned but just went and looked. I assume it's the top of the two brackets that hold the front panel onto the drawer base. Gasket might work. Crude solution: take some vice grips and bend the top corner so that the "point" rests against the front panel. Haven't done it but seems like it would work. We went around and around the oven issue as well. We had initially spec'd a 48'' range, and wanted a warming cabinet. That left only a few options and we ended up with the 55'' Cluny 1400. The ovens are indeed small, though prior discussions on earlier threads certainly show that you can get more into them than you might think. Still, I hedged our bets as you did, and installed a single Miele convection oven. I love the Miele. It's kind of the diametric opposite of the Lacanche--ultra high tech, with touch screen, Magic Chef, sensor probe, built in rotisserie, etc. It's spacious and cooks well. I honestly use it as our primary oven: it's big, it has a light (!), and the touch screens are very easy to navigate. Also, it's self cleaning and I'm totally lazy and would rather run that every month or two than attack the Lacanche with a can of Easy Off. To me it's the best of all worlds: a big convection for the turkey, and two small ovens so that for those big occasions (like the upcoming Thanksgiving cookathon) I'll be able to bake in all three. I would in all honesty be less than totally satisfied if all I had were the two LC ovens, mainly for the lack of convection and the inability to cook multiple sheets of cookies etc. Overall I love the LC and it has not yet failed to draw admiring comments from those who've seen it. It cooks wonderfully and I am very happy we decided on this splurge. Hope you take the leap too....See MoreLacanche - HELP!!
Comments (4)Thanks Alex! Actually, it's the entire stem that's turning freely. I have a feeling something inside the knob assembly is broken. I lifted the top, and can't see anything obvious. I'm hoping someone else had this happen and can at least let me know what to expect. Thanks, Beth...See MoreLacanche kitchen nightmare
Comments (18)Bonjour cheri127 ifoco and Kristi Woodcock ! So wonderful to hear from you all. We would also have loved to hear from Jennifer, but unfortunately are still awaiting word as well. Our commitment to our owners is paramount, but we do need a little investigative help when feedback such as this is presented on a social media platform. We are always so honored to be considered for the heart of one's home, and truly hate to hear that an owner is so regretful in their purchase. It is to note that all Lacanche Ranges purchased through Art Culinaire come with three year warrantee on parts, labor and service, and parts are housed in our National Headquarters in Washington, so availability should never be an issue. We now systematically pass all Ranges through one of our Warehouse facilities upon arrival to the US, to test and calibrate, prior to arriving at your home. The Ranges are analog, and are fairly simple to repair. While the Cluny is one of my personal favorites cheri127 , I would urge you to re-think your Warming Oven as not just a place to warm plates when entertaining, but more as a true 'low temperature oven' that can also function similar to that of a 'crockpot' or slow cooker. We find so many owners love to use the warming cupboards to proof yeast, dehydrate vegetables, or slow cook a brisket for several hours at time. Starting grains on the cooktop, for example, can finish beautifully in the Warming Cupboard. Just a petit thought :) As always, feel free to reach out to us at frenchranges.com, or say bonjour at Blair@frenchranges.com. I'm more than happy to help in any way I can. Merci, mes amis !!
