2012 Best Blooms from Houston - Round 2
Comments (17)Rena, nothing I have is older in the garden than June 2010, so I'm trying to reserve judgment on them unless they do something really bad. But I pay a lot of attention to what other people says will grow well before buying. I transplanted Maryott's MANGO NECTAR to my dad's place in Arkansas because it was getting really crispy last summer, but most things I have are doing well so far. Christine, I don't think my "Bela Lugosi" is quite correct. It came from American Meadows, probably tissue cultured and not field grown. The fact that two plants of the same cultivar have different bloom seasons and colors right next to each other is a dead giveaway that something is wrong. This is one of the reasons I always buy from daylily specialists now. Funny how many Stamiles made this post...I guess my Round 1 post was more diverse. Anyone who missed it can find it linked at the bottom of the first post in this thread. Nate...See MoreFavorite Grow Trays for Chili Seedlings?
Comments (26)Was just at the biggest nursery in town looking for something else when I stopped by one of the prep stations to ask for some help. Noticed some heavy duty plastic transplant trays (well, heavy duty for your normal semi-reusable/disposable trays that is) that looked very much like the speedling trays. Only instead of being perfect pyramids they were more like the old fashioned elongated trapazoidal popsicle molds. Nice grooves down the sides, good air pruning holes in the bottom, each cell probably 2 inches by 3 inches, each try with 30 cells (5x6). Asked them if they had anything like it for sale. Said they were the empties from where one of the supliers had sent them a shipment of lilies. One employee thought the supplier wanted them back, but called the manager to see if they had anything close to it for sale. Manager said to just give me the empties. I said thank you, took the stack (only wanted one, but they gave me the full half dozen trays) and got out of there before somebody had time to change their minds. =) Can't wait for my second round of bhuts to sprout so I can put them over into one of these trays. I'll try to get pictures tonight when I get home....See MoreBirds and other mobile features in the garden 2015 #3
Comments (99)Let's close this thread. It dates back to early 2015 and is way too long and it confuses people when they see two Birds and other mobile features... threads going at the same time. There's a later thread, Birds and other mobile features in the garden 2015 #11, that's current and will continue until it gets too long and the 2016 threads start. In general, I have no problem if people want to continue a discussion on an earlier thread with relevant comment, but newer posts are better put in context with newer threads (that sounds a little convoluted but I hope it makes sense). Comments (38)Taste Review: I have tasted a couple of them so far and it is seems to be getting better. Once I tasted together with Brandy Boy. The latter tasted better. Azoychka is not your normal old fashion tomato. It has a softer texture and and it is slightly tangy. Not sweet at all. It goes well in salad , mixed with red, pink and brown tomatoes. Actually I made a big bowl of such salad for a potluck last night and Azoychka slices disappeared fast. I found it tastier with few grains of salt. It brings out the flavor. I will continue tasting it as more of them get ripe. Over all: I would say that it is about average. But I like it for its gold color and the plants earliness and productivity. So AZOY will com back next season, for sure. Sey...See Moreaddicted2plants Southern IL USA
