We found our new house !
Comments (12)Lily- Congrats! It's a beautiful house and land...and I'm so happy for you. Is that you sitting on the chair with the view? As for the yard, the good thing about patchy grass is that it will be easier to remove and replace with gardens! LOL Is the top soil very good? Sometimes a builder will just spread dirt over the area, without topsoil...and nothing wants to grow. That (hopefully) free manure could really come in handy. Definitely take your time planning! Do you still have the dogs? Where do you plan to have their area? Everywhere or only out back? That makes a difference on your design, too. I love the idea of a pergola...and a pond! Depending on the light and wind patterns, I would probably put the roses in the front and add some perennials and shrubs to give it a bit of a cottage feel...but a little more formal. That's where the grass paths can really help and give you a place to walk through the gardens and have a few benches to sit down and enjoy the fragrances! I would also put climbing roses on the pergola...you'll have a mild enough winter (normally) that they should do very well! I'm so excited for you! You have to give us updates and a lot more pictures :)...See MoreHELP!! I now hate the exterior of our new house!! What to do??
Comments (3)We used to have natural cedar siding on our old house. I believe we used a product called CWF-UV (Clear Wood Finish-Ultra Violet protection ) in Cedar. I've attached pictures of our old house. Cedar has an orange cast to it, but the CWF brought out the dark reds too. Here's a link to the CWF http://www.acetogo.com/product/19794/finish+wd+cwf+cedar+gal.html Here is a link that might be useful: CWF on Cedar...See MoreI think I found our next build! Comments (44)DLM - are you talking about "liming"? That is popular here in the south and I'm assuming it's the same or similar to white-washing. Stinky - I feel the same. I'd feel lost in a house that size LOL. Nor do I want to clean or heat/cool it! But, it's only the two of us (no children), and we have very few overnight guests. We don't have plans to down-size, but no up-sizing either. We built our home 13 years ago with the future in mind - such as - NO STEPS. LOL PPS - I love your home. I enjoyed watching your build on the building forum. I'm glad there are others here who enjoy that board. We're not building, have no plans of building again, but I usually try to look at that board once a month (when I remember!) to see the updates on new builds. I like looking at houses! LOL tina...See MoreWhat colors should we paint the exterior of our new home?!
Comments (10)It's a Tudor with a turret. It's always going to be a Tudor with a turret. Do not paint the stone. This below is the whitest color scheme I have seen for a Tudor. I would definitely keep the black windows. They are perfect with your house. I would keep your color current scheme and invest is some complementary landscaping like you see below. Your lot is really lacking & 86 the globe balls lamp post. The property could look much better with landscape lighting....See Morezorroslw1
