Kitchen/Dining Design Dilemma PLEASE HELP!
Comments (6)the partition wall is using up space as you have two "passages" created...not necessarily needed....Take out partition wall..make dining zone in that area.....eliminate peninsula in kitchen....go for L shape kitchen on the window and pantry wall and give a destination island where dining table sits now. More needs to be known about your space, and adjacent spaces....See MoreLarge Kitchen vs. Large Living Room - Remodel Design Dilemma
Comments (6)@Patricia, you have a good point. I think I will definitely want to consult a designer to get their perspective from an aesthetics/space usage mindset. I do have a large media room in the lower level where my big screen is, so I figure if I ever have a large group to watch a game, etc., that is likely where I will need the most seating. The upstairs could then be used more generally for entertaining. My dining table seats 10 and moving it into living area would allow me to add chairs on either end. The addition of a 9-10’ Island would add seating as well. At worst, the family in its current footprint could snugly fit a ~6-7 person sectional and a chair. I think with an additional ~2-3’ feet in length and width, I should easily be able to fit a sectional in there as well as 1-2 accent chairs. Plus if I’m entertaining there would be plenty of space to gather at the end of the kitchen where the new bar would be. These pictures are not by any means exactly what I would do (I used a trial version and stock colors/cabinets), but should help give a sense of layout....See MoreBuilding a new house- kitchen Design dilemma!
Comments (41)No the other plan is no better. It's still fat with more than 2 rooms deep and with no way to have windows in the main rooms on 2 walls. The outside corner in the master is taken up not with the bedroom but the closet and bathroom. The kitchen has NO natural light and the main room has windows only on one wall. In fact the pantry which shouldn't have a window, is at the front with a window while the kitchen is in a dark hole. The flow sucks. Look at the path from the front door to the master bedroom for example. A walk in pantry can be a good thing but it has to fit within the house. If you want to see some well designed houses take a look at what architectrunnerguy does. And not a single fat house....See MoreKitchen Design Dilemma!
Comments (14)You all are amazing! Thank you @Buehl! I tried to update the dimensions as best I could. I knew I should have done 12”! I tried 6” at first and went off the page lol. This looks amazing! I’m so grateful for the help :) I could also just bite the bullet and buy the counter depth and have a garage fridge for extras. Or, I could just live with this one for now and when it goes, upgrade to a counter depth then. I’ve had it 7 years... not old, but not brand new either. Functions super well for our family. I thought about reorienting the island to face the living room, but felt the space was really more rectangular than square and thought I should mirror the long side of the island with the long side of the space. But, that angled wall... I’m never sure how to handle that. Underneath the short wall with the bend, there is an unfinished closet in the basement with HVAC unit for the basement. You can look up and see the underside of the basement staircase so I know a part of that wall (closest to the basement) is unfinished below....See Morelenzai
