Nice house, I love ranch style homes, especially brick ones. Please dont paint the brick, it is gorgeous. I would paint the front door a lighter color, something in the orange family, and change in landscaping with pops of color, is all I would do.

I am not a fan of painting brick unless it is in terrible disrepair. I would start with the front entrance. Can we get a better shot of it.

I think different landscaping . The hedges and trees don't give a welcoming feeling.

Oh, I like it! I agree I would start with a lighter color for the front door, though I'm not sure I'd go with orange. If you post a more straight on picture of the front door (maybe in a new thread just about the front door color), I bet someone will photoshop some color options for you.

And I agree some different landscaping. I think less of the formal shaped shrubs and add some grasses or other plants that have more movement or other interest.

Do you need some house numbers?

The brick and the window are lovely, is that leaded glass? If it were my home I would not change anything about the homes exterior and would focus instead entirely on landscape/hardscape. First I'd stop shearing the shrubs and let them return to a more natural open look. I'd remove a portion of the lawn and extend the front entrance area into a courtyard, with a short wall or fence, add a stone bench and a low fountain, maybe a bubbler. Then I'd add a curved plant lined pathway through the yard to the front door. I'd finish with outdoor lighting throughout the planted areas, with "up light" on the largest shrubs.

That brick is gorgeous. Maybe just lightening the gutter & trim color from brown to a taupe would help. The main thing about your house is that the landscaping needs an overhaul. Pull the plantings forward and open up the house's front facade. Look online for midcentury modern ranch houses to get ideas for landscaping that complements your house's beautiful horizontal lines.

Oh don't paint that beautiful brick. It's very very nice. What are the 2 columns of white in the front window? Drapes? Looks kind of odd to me.

You could add shutters. Maybe white. Or paint the trim around the windows white.

I suggest you visit the landscaping forum (in the Garden Forums) for ideas about your yard. I agree that the problem isn't your house - it's the landscaping. I think you need less over-pruned evergreens and more flowers.

Thank you to everyone for the great advice and insight! I won't be able to get a better front door picture for a few more days! I would definitely be up for changing the trim and adding shutters! Yes the 2 white columns are drapes...it's an original picture from the previous owner (we haven't moved in yet). I am very excited to have the chance to put my own decorative spin into the house! I will definitely visit the garden forum for more advice!
