Thanks to Sally!

Before life went crazy, I sent Sally some apples, nice fresh, local crunchy Michigan apples. I hope she enjoyed them, although I only managed to get enough into a box to maybe make one good sized pie! I think I owe her some more....

She promptly went out and pruned her bay laurel tree. Or is that a bush? It's smaller now, that's for sure!

They are happily drying in my back utility room right now, although I've already used some fresh. I think I need to make some more stock soon, and they'll come in handy then too.

Thanks, Sally, those bay leaves will be put to good use, believe me!

Believe me, I got the better end of the deal.

Annie, that bush is about 10 feet tall and 5 or more feet wide. I can't even tell where I pruned it. It's planted too close to a path, so I have to cut it back from time to time so we can walk down the path. Just let me know when you need more. I hope you get lots of good use out of them.

Thank you irene, you stated perfectly what I was trying to say. It does appear that I've totally messed up what I was trying to do, that was not my intention. laag, in a lot of ways, I can see where it can come across like that. Money does play a part, yes, but if that was all it was, I'd toss some stuff in there, and call it good. Have you ever had a home "talk" to you, but were unable to understand what it was asking for? This house talks to me, but I no longer hear it's message clearly. I used to be able to articulate my thoughts better, that took a hit when the MS affected my cognitive abilities last year. Nothing I can do about that, but try. A little guidance and less critism to a relative newbie here would have been a much nicer way to use your time. Although in reading some of your previous responses it apprears critism is your specialty. I think I'll just go back to my little dirt pile now, and put to use the things I learned from brent, amazon and nandina, who took the time to offer their help through their advice and time. Thank you so much for trying to help me, I wish I could find someone to give me lessons! You're right I did type it in wrong! This is a copy of the pattern. It was free on Ravelry ao I hope it's OK to post it. Is it the 3rd yarn back that I pass over? Christmas Lace Size: 76 inches long, 5 inches wide. Materials: size 6 knitting needles 2 skeins Inca Alpaca 109 yards/50 grams each tapestry needle for weaving in ends Gauge: gauge is not critical as you will block to desired size Cast on 22 stitches. Row 1: k3, *YO, sl1, k1, psso, k2; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, YO, sl1, k1, psso, k1 Row 2: p3, *YO, p2tog, p2; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, YO, p2tog, p1 Repeat these two rows until desired length ending with a row 2. Knit 1 row. Bind off and weave in ends. Soak in tepid water for 30 minutes. Lace blocking wires threaded through the outermost row of yarnovers on either side give a lovely even scarf. Nice haul! I also have a Bay tree, but mine is fairly small because I have it in a pot, and the pot is not that big. Fresh bay leaves are very much different from dried ones - I recommend freezing them instead of drying them, and they will retain much more flavor that way. I use bay leaves in making pickles and the fresh ones give much more flavor to the pickles than the dried ones.

If possible, vacuum seal the leaves before freezing them. If they are partially dried, that is okay.

Lars: Thanks for the ideas for the bay leaves. I too prefer the taste of the fresh leaves but hadn't thought about freezing them. And, I'm going to try putting a fresh bay leaf in my next jar of pickles.

I never thought of freezing them, either, but then, I don't have to...yet. I do wrap the tree during severe winter weather, just to make sure it doesn't get freeze damage, but that's not quite the same thing. lol.
