Anyone still using Vaska?
Comments (11)dondd: "I found Vaska to be the worst performing detergent on stains that I have ever used. I did like the little bottle, and using a non-typical detergent." Best practice: use detergents for cleaning; use bleach for bleaching; use stain-removers for removing stains. As with most jobs around the house, you will get the best results if you employ the specialized tools designed for the specific job. "Tide with (oxy) bleach is the best detergent for stains I have ever used. Including many other brands labeled with added Oxy. I would much rather order some exotic detergent from Sweden than use a common P & G product, but what works works." Vaska is not Swedish; it is a product of the United States, specifically, Berkeley, California. If you use Tide with Oxy bleach for every wash, then you are bleaching the colored items that you wash with it; if you need concentrated bleaching, then rather than the small amount of sodium percarbonate -- the active ingredient in all oxygen bleaches -- in a multi-purpose detergent like Tide with Oxy, add the real stuff (100% sodium percarbonate, which can be purchased in bulk -- say, ten pounds -- inexpensively), or even chlorine bleach, to only the loads that need bleaching; you will get enhanced bleaching performance. Different stains call for different stain removers, and the most effective stain removers usually work best with localized topical applications. To answer the OP's question, we use Vaska, with a scoop of borax in each load, and supplementing with the specialized tools listed above as appropriate, and we really like it....See MorePurex Liquid
Comments (34)Tide does the same thing with the misleading label. Today I used my coupons and got my 3 Fab Fresh Crystals and my HUGE jug of Purex Fab Fresh detergent. Cant wait for my son to take some of this. First load white bath towels and wash cloths. It was a full load. I took a chance and used to line 2, along with a few T of the crystals, 140 something F. 3 rinses and 1 T Downy Free. I expected suds after all it was towels, but I had very few suds, at first I thought ok no way I've used enough so while the *add a garment* was still on I opened and felt the water..nice and slippery. Than I figured once the temp started raising the suds will sneak up, but no they never did. OMG my house smelled great. 2nd rinse was almost clear and 3'rd rinse was crystal..Towels came out of the washer smelling terrific and nice and clean and yes white..out of the dryer soft, fluffy, with a lovely light scent. Next time I will use a Tide bleach booster since this isn't a Whites detergent. Second load vintage percale sheets and pillowcases...full load, I used again to line 2, &2 T crystals, 1 teaspoon Downy Free. 154+ F and 3 rinses. Again hardly no suds. 3'rd rinse crystal clear..Sheets were clean, white and smelled lovely. I've started ironing them amd I get whiffs of the lovely scent. I did not use any boosters but I will in the future, this is not a whites detergent and I want to keep my whites white. This is also not going to be my daily driver, I think it may be great for towels, sheets, nighties though....See MoreCheer vs Persil Pearls
Comments (31)I have had several issues with the GG pods in my Miele. I actually quit using them for several weeks, until yesterday. Originally, I put the pod in the back of the tub before I added laundry. The semi-dissolved pod immediately made its way into the tub boot and smeared its self on the glass. This happened twice in a week. Then I tried it in the dispenser drawer, and it dissolved. With a full, absorbent load it all gets flushed away. A small load, nope. So, now I just use a bra/mesh bag or a sock or a pillowcase to deliver the pod to the wash. My washer is set up to only fill with cold water, which probably affects how quickly the pods dissolve. I also wash fuller loads than most people, which could potentially delay dissolving. Europeans tend to wash fuller loads than Americans, at full capacity. Since I have a European washer, I wash like it, because the machines are designed that way. I already do a ton of laundry and could not imagine washing 1/2 to 3/4 full loads all the time!...See MoreI didn't know what I didn't know! Need your guidance!
Comments (5)@nucleartumbleweed... Congrats on the new Electrolux's (I have the older 70 WaveTouch series) you should enjoy your machines very much. What I do when I'm done using mine is wipe down the door glass, boot (the rubber seal between the door and the drum), take out the detergent drawer and shake it dry. Leave the door open and the detergent drawer open or leave it out (on top of the machine) to dry out until next use or for 24/48 hours. Use hot for your whites and you can do a Sanitize wash every once in a while to help kill bacteria not only in your clothes but in the machine also (use Sanitary for whites). Warm is now the new Cold. Temps in today efficient machines have been turned (dumbed) down. Warm is now in the 70-80 degree range (not in the 90/100's like they used to be). Use cold infrequently for dark specialty items that are super delicate...but most of today's colorfast times can withstand warm. Do the Clean Cycle when the machine promps you (Electrolux is every 50 washes), with a cup of bleach. Remember scented bleach or splashless bleach is not a disinfectant. Only traditional good old bleach is labeled to kill 99.9% of household germs. You can use "pods" but DO NOT put them in the detergent drawer. They go directly into the drum with the clothes. The same with scent beads, pods or scent crystals. Most of us separate our whites from our colors. If you want dazzling whites, wash them together with no color items. You don't need all the stuff we post here in pictures or talk about. We just get carried away here and simply must have our stash of new and improved or just discussed items. Ask if have more questions, there are a bunch of great people here that would be happy to assist you....See MoreLaundry Mich
