Can't figure out my living room

Does anyone have suggestions on wall decor, furniture, pillows, really everything to make my living room prettier and more sophisticated? I have not been in the house long and added the stuff from my old house to this space but I don't think it works. We have taken down the painting above the couch several times to test different pieces (so yes I know it is not straight) but I can't figure what to put in such a wide space and then tie in pillows and other wall decor. Any suggestions would be great. The space is awkward in that it is small and the one wall is so long and open. Please help! Thanks designers ;)

How wide is the room, and what is between the French doors and the fireplace wall? Is there another room for watching TV? The size and shape of this room seem like it might work much better as a dining room.

Would it help to swap the sofa with the media chairs? Somehow it looks like it might fit better there.

I agree with jlc though that if there is a different larger room for TV it would be better as this furniture is very large for this small room. And the location would appear to be better for dining.

What's through the french doors? Might that work better for TV and this furniture?

I know, that's why I'm so worried my whole crop will disappear without my being able to do anything about it. This is definitely a stealth "critter." Stems are eaten right down to the ground along with the leaves, which are *not* skeletonized. The photo shows the first typical phase: large chunk gone one day, bigger chunk later or the next day, gobbled down to the grround the next, then the next leaf gets started on and when that's gone, the next plant. You know how leaf miners love spinach and chard, laying their eggs inside and killing the leaves? Well, I was wondering if anyone knew what loves to eat chard like this. Some bugs love certain things. Nothing has touched my leaf lettuce sitting right next to the chard. Whatever it is likes chard and not lettuce. I've lived here for six months now and I've never laid eyes on a rabbit. I'm home most of the day, too, and see my garden from my kitchen window.

The drawing not being to scale might make this more complicated, and perhaps not worthwhile since what appears to fit may not. Pix would be helpful. My main question is how tall is the window? Is it workable to put furniture in front of it? What I would do is put the loveseat (blue) where the couch is now, and keep the one end table that is by the wall. That way the view and entry space from the foyer aren't as crowded Put the couch on the window wall, and use the other end table down at the end of the couch. I assume both end tables have lamps. Put the tv in the corner where the 15'11" wall meets the sloping wall, and put the dvd racks to the right of the tv on the sloping wall. I assume this will work with the angle, unless the racks are 6 feet tall. The end wall of the room might even have room for a console table with a couple of ottomans tucked underneath for more seating, some art on the wall, and another lamp.

Is this space intended to be used as a dining room as well, or is there a separate dining room. I also assume the door will be the main point on entry. If the door is main entry and this space is just a living room then I would place an open book case to serve as a landing pad. Other corner across for door is other location. I would place TV console on wall same side as door. Float the sofa directly across from the TV and use the are behind as your walkway. should be room for a chair or two 90 degrees from sofa.

OK, at least now I know where windows are and where you are thinking of sectional. Not clear where TV would go but I'm assuming it's the only other wall that remains... at the bottom portion of your image. So then year... an L-shaped sectional where the long end of the sectional goes along/under the windows, and the short end of the sectional goes along the other wall that leads to the staircase. So then the sectional faces the far wall...and the other long end of the room...and where the TV would be. As for taking advantage of the view, if someone wants to do that and not watch TV, then they lay on the short end of the sectional, facing towards the windows. Right? You mention maybe putting a recliner in 'the opposite', but not clear if by 'opposite' you mean the same far wall where the TV would be? If you put a recliner along that far wall, it would obviously have to be on the window side of that far wall vs the bathroom side of that far wall, so as to not block access to the bathroom...

I'd try and focus the seating around the fireplace and leave a path between the kitchen and french doors, to get to whatever is out there. Then I'd put a desk or bookshelves and a chair in the corner under the bar, for perusing my cookbooks, going online while someone was watching TV, doing homework, paying bills, household management, etc. I would try and keep whatever I was trying to do in there out of the path between the kitchen and doorway. That way the spaces will feel more focused, intimate and cozy. On the other hand, if that set-up works for you, then I honestly don't think it is that bad. Just keep on the lookout for art pieces you like and you can gradually deck it out more. Curtains would add an additional layer of cozy. An area rug with a nice pattern in front of the fireplace would "tie the room together." I got a nice wool oriental rug on sale and put it over my living room carpet that was the same color as yours, added an instant feeling of being more than a "pass through" room, which it tended to be also, due to the layout of my house, you had to walk through the middle of the living room to get to the rest of the house. The only downside of putting an area rug over carpet is they tend to shift, but perhaps there are strategies for solving that problem.
