Opinions please on this dining room set
Comments (19)I vote with the others that your set is nicer and would keep it. Why does the hutch have to match? This is my own bias speaking but I don't care for rooms where everything is matchy-matchy. I do think that furniture should complement and coordinate with the other pieces and yours does that. Doing that makes for a much more interesting room. Do whatever else you are planning with paint or drapes or artwork and then see what you think. My dining room consists of a dining table that is about 90 years old that was my grandmothers and a hutch that is about 60 years old that my uncle made in grade 12 woodwork....See Moreopinions please on this dining room set
Comments (23)Just because it's an estate sale doesn't mean the piece is old and good quality. It could be the pics, but I'm sure that this is a modern reproduction and it appears to be of a lower quality wood covered with a tinted varnish to get the color rather than be of genuine mahogany that a good quality reproduction would be. I'm thinking 1980's import quality rather than 1960's solid wood repro. If that's the case, then the whole thing would go for around $200 used rather than the 1K of the better quality version. But, if you like it, that's no reason to not buy it. Just for the lower price....See MoreOpinions please, on Dining Room chairs
Comments (11)Those upholstered chairs are from Overstock. Regretfully, there are no reviews, so if you order them, you are ordering a pig in a poke (what is a pig in a poke?) The price isn't too bad, 2 for $500. If you are only going to pull the extra chairs in when you have a large group for dinner, then I'm not sure it really matters what the additional chairs look like. I think fitting around the table and looking good in other areas of the house override matching what you have. Have you checked Craigslist in your area? Comments (34)Tinam, you are right that it's all about the region one lives in.....red may be trendy in some areas and not others. I was kind of hoping to hang on to it until it was in again :-) I like the idea of a stencil, rorah, as that way I could get exactly the right colors--- but mtn has got the red completely right with that Cole and sons wallpaper. I like it, it is a bit toned down but the gold is fantastic, as in the coral and gold paper. Maybe I am just longing for bling and don't realize it! I have to admit I am also liking the idea of a very white or shades of cream room, although that is completely unlike me. Lots of ideas to consider here and I appreciate all the input. Creating a room that is lovely and welcoming and comfortable and elegant is not an easy task! Many thanks! I will post later after I have seen what ID #1 has to say. And VERY good news--- finally got the bid on the basement renovation and it is about 50% less than my "worse case" scenario and about 20% less than my expectation, so I am seriously excited and we are starting right after Christmas! Not getting the handmade brick made a huge difference in the price of the flooring. Luckily, I found a locally made brick I like even more, the brick size is better and they are doing a run just for my basement, then slicing off 1/2" for my floor. The rest of the brick will be pulverized and recycled into more brick. This stuff is so reasonable I am now going to brick the service hallway on the other side of the house AND the wine cellar!...See MoreNothing Left to Say
