I love your Q.A. set, so I vote no. Your hutch is a lot nicer too.

I've always wanted a formal dining room, they're great for entertaining and to have holiday meals in.

I also agree your current set is nicer and looks to be in better condition. Perhaps you just need to repaint the room and recover the seats, but maybe wait until after you re-do the LR.

I think your QA set is in better condition, but think the CL table and chairs are better quality.

I'm biased towards loving Queen Anne furniture to begin with, I agree with the others and would keep your set. Queen Anne Style is timeless, the other set could look dated in a few years; it looks to be a nice set and "current", what happens down the road when styles change again.

Maybe you just need to change the color of your dining room chairs' fabric to what you like in the CL set.

It just doesn't change the look enough. I say keep yours!

In my opinion, the CL set looks more interesting than your set. That being said, I wonder if the 2 pedestals on the CL set would get in the way of your feet. Can't speak to the condition or quality of the CL set though.

I don't think it's a very big change, so I'd recommend not spending money on it.

I agree with the others - not enough difference to justify the change.

nini804 has a set like yours and her dining room does not look at all "dated". Maybe you just need to change some other elements of your room to make it feel fresher.

Thanks for weighing in....I guess it's always bugged me that my hutch doesn't match the dining set (dining set is cherry, QA, and hutch is more of a walnut I think with Asian-type lines).

I think my options are:
a) try to find a matching hutch to the QA set
b) Paint or ??? existing hutch OR do something different in that cut-out space. I think painting wouldn't fit the bill of the classic style I'm going for...
c) find a new dining set that fits the bill - classic, dark, & "timeless" (if there is such a thing)on CL or spend some $$$

Any ideas on painting the hutch or putting something different in that alcove? Or am I just being too picky about the set not matching?

Don't paint the furniture. Paint the walls, change the seat covers and curtains. I didn't notice that the hutch doesn't match.

I prefer the second set, mostly because of the pedestal legs. But there is not enough of a difference to make the change, IMO.

I vote with the others that your set is nicer and would keep it. Why does the hutch have to match? This is my own bias speaking but I don't care for rooms where everything is matchy-matchy. I do think that furniture should complement and coordinate with the other pieces and yours does that. Doing that makes for a much more interesting room. Do whatever else you are planning with paint or drapes or artwork and then see what you think.

My dining room consists of a dining table that is about 90 years old that was my grandmothers and a hutch that is about 60 years old that my uncle made in grade 12 woodwork.

I really like the new set a lot! It is more interesting than the QA and the hutch is quite unusual without being "weird" in style. There is such a vast range of quality in QA furniture; the new set looks lovely and good quality. If you like it and want to replace your set, and the price is right I'd take the plunge. The rest of us might like QA, but we aren't living with it. I love those new chair backs.

Queen Anne is never "dated" it has been part of good taste for about 200 years and will continue to be.
Why in heaven's name do you want every piece matchy-matchy?
The Craig's list set won't be as comfortable to sit at and I prefer the graceful lines of the oval table to those squared off corners......and that china cabinet looks cheap.
Your set is better.

OK, I went to look at the set and it's just OK. It was all wrapped up so I didn't get a great look, but my first impression was so-so. Adding to that is that is was purchased from Ashley furniture, which in these parts, has a reputation for lesser quality furniture.
So I think I'll pass on it, thanks for all your opinions, much appreciated!

What about changing out just the head chairs to update the look?

Trying...yes, I thought of that, but wasn't sure....I thought two cream chairs, but haven't really done any searching yet. Thanks for the reminder, I think I'll put that as part of my vision board for my new LR/DR.

I would find a new home for the Asian cabinet - in the LR or in an office, filled with a collection of interesting items and books, etc.

I am not a fan of Queen Anne, so I would continue to look for a replacement. But if you love it, maybe you should just be looking for a different hutch?

Or consider putting a sideboard type of piece in the alcove, and hanging a great mirror above it, a lamp or a pair of buffet lamps placed on top.
