Well, I guess there are differeing opinions about everything, LOL. Just depends on your conditions and the resources available to you. That said, I will put in my 2 cents, even though it may be worse less than that. buyorsell888 is right...this is a really common philo that you should be able to pick up at almost any box store during the growing season for a few bucks. But, that can depend on where you live, as things like philos are very common in some areas and less so or even uncommon depending on where you live tootswisc, the leafless stems of philodendron (and epipremnum, rhaphidophora, and some vining types of anthurium) will root if you have at least 2-3 "nodes" that you can bury in the soil. The nodes on the stem of these plants give rise to either a root, a leaf, or in some cases both. If you have a 3-node cutting and plant 2 nodes under the soil and leave the 3rd above, a new offshoot with a new stem and leaves should arise from the 3rd node after the others root and the plant resumes growth I mix garden soil with my potting soil all the time. Its a common practise here with folks, especially those of us that live in rural areas. Florida's native soil is commonly called "Myakka fine sand". That's exactly what it is: sand. It drains fast, and has a pretty poor nutrient content unless its from an area where there is a lot of leaf mold mixed in. It makes a great soil extender when you mix your own soil blends for potting, along with perlite, organic humus and peat moss. If I lived somewhere where the soil was heavy clay I wouldn't use it, but mine is fine to mix in for containerized plants. An added bonus: the earthworms!

First off I would not plant two kinds of Philos in the same pot, EVER. Some grow quicker than others, and will choke and eventually kill the other slower grower. Second If you were to plant philos in a huge pot, you're more likely to kill the plants by rot. It's best to only pot up one size, and remember three 4 inch pots will only fill a 6 or 8 inch pot without causing rot. You'll also probably end up with the corn plant rotting also as it decomposes and cause the whole thing to tumble over at the soil line. Have you thought of tillys or other broms to grow on the cane? Water with a spray bottle and no water will reach the soil to cause rot.

In my experience, there is really almost no such thing as a "non-vining" philo. Eventually, they all need to either creep along the ground, like Gloriosum and Mamei, or climb upward. Its best to get them started on a stake while they are younger than to wait til they are older and have more inflexible trunks. I use large bore (2" or more) pvc wrapped in cocofiber mats for most of mine. PVC has the benefit of being able to be "added to" as the plant gets bigger and bigger. That, or else you eventually have to top the plant, which only stops it for a while

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see what I may have around and see if I can set up another trade with a CP grower. I'm kinda looking for good sized plants that could help take out a community of little flies that are buzzing around my room now. I bought a small staghorn fern from Walmart and I thought I got a great deal for 1.94 until I realized I brought home these little flies that are now taking up residence in my houseplants and Cacti&Succulents. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some larger plants in a big box store soon. BTW: I don't know if you all trade in the general seed and plant trade but there is a GW member that I see from time to time offer CP seeds from his/her plants. I have yet to find something to tempt him/her out of seeds...but it may be worth a look for some of you.
