I miss the old GW format as well! Here's the jest I get with marble, be it in the kitchen or bathroom. If you love it, have to have it and know it's downfalls and what to expect, you'll be happy with it. I think it's beautiful but not my cup of tea and I'm not a fan of "patina". I love travertine. I have it in the entry and kitchen backsplash and now as a listello in DH's bathroom. As much as I wanted it on my bathroom floor, I chose to go with a travertine-look porcelain. It was a hard decision but I know it was the right one for me.

We just completed a new build this summer. My MB sounds close to yours. We have a marble vanity, porcelain shower walls (faux marble) and a real marble hex floor. The hex went in prior to reading others' issues with it here on the web. We love everything and it looks great, but I do wish we had not put in the hex and had used a shower pan or something else. While we do not have any issues with the stone yet, the grout lines are already dingy and being that it is marble, it is difficult to clean and such. That is the one thing I would redo. We have not had any issues with the vanity tops.

We're putting in a marble tile shower wall and mosaic marble floor. The tile dealer said absolutely do not put marble counters in the kitchen but in the bathroom he said marble works fine. He suggested polished marble while I was planning to go with honed marble for the shower, herringbone pattern like this photo.

We did a tumbled marble m.b. 12 years ago. It's floor and shower. It's held up very well with resealing every few years. It needs more care than ceramic tile in wet areas. But I've found the floor to be very easy. Rugs are a must as it's extremely slippery on the floor unless you have very small mosaic.

We have vitreous china pedestal sinks. I wouldn't advise marble on a vanity. It looks great but water, soap and any oil based products will take a toll. If someone has help who can maintain it that's a different story.

I've seen a few threads here where people have installed Chinese marble and the iron in it has oxidized and left orange discoloration, which isn't removable. Make sure you know the source of the marble. I would also only choose marble if I had a top-notch tile setter, but I would do that anyway if I was using a tiled shower floor.

The more important choice to make marble work is the choice of waterproofing system that you use, and who build the shower. You haven't mentioned that. And you NEED to research it.

My tile setter installed wainscot subway tile with a glass mosaic trim, plus "to the ceiling" subway in the tub surround in the upstairs full bath, and the floor in hex porcelain. Very challenging as the floor and tub weren't level in this 1939 redo. He also tiled my sunroom floor. In my previous home, he repaired a tile floor for me. I trust him. He's worked for my builder/neighbor for 29 years.

My tile store is local and have been in business for a very long time. This is Italian marble.

Well, I stopped by the tile store today and the marble subway that I had selected won't be available until December. So, I switched to porcelain beveled subway. No marble since I was doubting my choices. Thanks to all for your input and information.

I recently saw a beveled tile shower on GW and I wondered if mold or even just cleaning is an issue. And what about squeegeeing with speed bumps?

I have the beveled porcelain subway in the upstairs bath. A flat squeegee won't work, but I never found those useful on tile and used those on glass shower doors.. I use a soft dish cleaning brush (the kind with a short handle that fits inside glasses). I use it on the hex tile floor, too. I used epoxy grout.

I'm going to use a gray porcelain wood like tile for my bathroom floor. Two things. First, I was told that you should use porcelain on the floor, not ceramic. Second, can you post a photo or source for your tile? I haven't see many gray wood tiles and would love to see yours.

Yes, I'm using porcelain. Here's the link to my local tile shop with photos. I'm using the grey 6x36 planks laid in a herringbone pattern. The tile is made by Vision Stone. The grey is the lightest shade I could find as I didn't want to darken the room.

The Vision Stone grey is beautiful. The sequelo looks more brownish/grey in the photo. Is it in real life?

The Sequelo is more rustic.

I finalized and ordered my tile today. I switched the floor planks to Seta in Silver because it's a much lighter look. It is in 6x24, but the store had a floor display laid out in herringbone and it looked great.

I also switched back to shower walls of honed marble, but the shower floor in a ceramic tile in a grey to coordinate. I was more concerned over having a marble floor than marble shower walls, since there are only two walls (other walls are glass). It will be sealed before and after grouting.

I'm using the Seta 12x24" plank for the 4' shower bench seat. Since I couldn't order a few tiles (had to order a box), I'm also using the Seta Silver in the laundry room.

Everything's ordered. Sheetrock went up today and the hardwood floor material was just delivered to let it acclimate before install.

Seta silver looks beautiful. Please post photos when its done. I wish there was a best tile near me. I would love to see it.

We are doing our master bathroom and are in the process of tiling our bathroom and closet floor with a porcelain wood look gray in an oversized hex. It also comes in a plank. I think it's turning out really great. The tile is beautiful, and I think the hex is an interesting twist on wood look tile.
