Does anyone have Cultured Marble shower/tub surround? Pics?

We are going to start reno on two of our leaking tile tub/showers next week and are thinking of cultured marble for the walls. When this house was built they put in regular dry wall behind the sheets of tile and they both leak, especially the master bath. We haven't been able to use it for years.

I never want tile again!

Sorry, no pics. We have the CM shower base (not installed yet), and once DH gets the plumbing rerouted and walls done and shower fixtures put up then the cultured marble guy will come out for a final measure. This is going into the basement/guest bath, and we have 8" thick concrete walls. We are also having a 10" deep cultured marble ledge made that will go the whole length of the wall- creating a shampoo/soap shelf in the shower and the window sill over the toilet.

We have chosen to do a honed finish very subtle shadow on white. I am hoping it will look fabulous (certainly costs enough! :>)

so raehelen--any photos of your bath with the cultured marble shower?
we are considering doing the same thing but not on so grand a scale

Oops! My title may have sounded snobbish - lol! What I meant was - in my search for inspirations pictures, I am seeing so many bathrooms with gorgeous tiled showers, marble slabs, huge vanities, storage towers etc. and that is not the direction I am going in (and that are as bigger than my bedrooms) Weedyacres - Isn't it amazing what paint, tile and fixtures can do to perk up a "tired" bathroom. Great job -keeping things simple in a small bath. I did that to my DH's bath a couple of years ago. Painted a drab, worn builders oak vanity a gorgeous white, slapped a new Lowes stock faux granite top on it, painted the walls,etc. Gsciencechick - your sister's project sounds like mine. An "nice hotel" look is the direction I am kind of going in. It's called making the best of my space! I can't believe how expensive glass doors are - talk about sticker shock! I may have to clean up the stainless on the one's I have and re-use them. aa62579 - I'm actually going to have to take out a wall behind the existng unit which is my laundry room. I know -sounds likes overdoing it, but I really want to get it right - this will be my forever bath! If I do a solid piece unit, I will NEVER have to deal with caulk. We have looked at the separate pieces, but we don't think we can get these pieces through the regular door either. My project is not going to be easy! I'm actually going to be putting new flooring and woodwork down in the laundry, so might as well have both rooms torn up at once. Tuesday

Don't know if you've considered this, but we broke our vanities up with a make up drawer dropped down between them. The vanities are counter height. Because there are three separate tops, we were able to use the center section cut out from our undermount tub and were able to get everything from one slab. There were extra costs for the edges on the sides of the counter, but it was less than purchasing a second slab. Another fabricator had also recommended that we do pieces around the tub in four sections seamed together. Does that make sense? This way they could easily get everything from one slab. He insisted it had to be done this way or it would crack during transport. The fabricator we ultimately chose reinforced the edges and was able to transport it without any problems. I was really annoyed he tried to convince us it had to be done this way, but it might be an option to consider if you really want the marble and need to get everything from one slab. Unfortunately, the painters are in the bathroom today and tomorrow so I can't get any pictures to better explain myself.

NO, it can't. Not unless it's made with the thought in mind of tiling it. Cast enamel can't be tiled because the metal core will tend to expand and contract way too much with the changes in temperature, and plastics or fiberglass will flex too much, unless, as I said, it's MADE to be tiled over, such as the 1"+ thick fiberglass tub in the pics below. Thickness of the fiberglass is clearly visible on the edge of the tub to the right side:

I am not sure how you're applying the floor tile, but I thought I'd share my tub surround with you and hope it might inspire some new thoughts. I used a 12x12 tile on my tub and in my shower and then used the same travertine on the floor, but I applied it on a diagnal. My deck is done in a ceramic tile with my accent color (brown) but perhaps if your floor tile is reasonable for an idea like this, you could find a great complimentary color for the Silver Sage for your deck tile and keep the walls and floor all the same. It's a nice look, and it actually does cut costs since you can buy a less expensive tile for the walls and then splurge on the deck. These are constructin photo's The walls have since been marbelized and the cabinets somewhat finished (the GC is VERY VERY Slow!!!) But anyhoo...just an idea to throw out :)

We just moved into our new house, and after reading about it on this forum, we had cultured marble installed in the master bath walk-in shower. So far I love it! We had tile in a house years ago, and I felt like I had to don HazMat personal protective clothing every few weeks to go in and clean the mildew off the walls with bleach. Hated it! Now, I just squeegie the walls daily, and every so often use GelGloss to clean and protect. No grout lines! The shower pan is also CM.

I'm not sure if you are talking about replacing the whole tub and surround with an integrated unit, or if you have a tub that will stay and replace the tile with a cultured stone surround. My tub is admittedly very simple, but here's in general what the cultured marble looks like around a tub. Definitely nice to avoid grout lines, so I left it all intact when we did a minor remodel.

This is becoming the gall darn reno from H***!

Am hoping to nag- I mean convince DH to get walls taped and plastered today- so then I can prime and Cultured Marble guy can come in to do final measure. I am so ready to have this bathroom done! We do have a working toilet and floor down- yeah- but DS arrives home tomorrow, and I guess he'll be showering upstairs (again!:>). Maybe, just maybe he'll have a shower before he heads back to college! (In two weeks).

Would love to pick a paint colour, but as shower base is NOT the colour we picked- am waiting till the walls are in, and then will paint (would have preferred doing the painting first)

According to CM guy, walls will be waterproof, priming is to cover the blue board so colour doesn't show through marble.

Muscat, what is the trim around your surround? Looks very nice!
