X-post: Patio door for entry?
Comments (3)It all depends on the architectural style of your house. Can you post a photo of the front of your house with your current door? What climate zone are you in? Which direction does the door face? What do other houses in your neighborhood have, or are you in a wilderness? How far from the street is your front door, or are you even on a street? If so, is there a streetlight near your house? Can you post a photo or link to the door your are considering? Lars...See MoreMotion sensing entry light--x-post
Comments (10)This won't help you immediately because I can't give you the name or model number. We installed something similar at our vacation home. It's in the middle of the woods and we needed something to light the way when we take the dog out at night. We put up 4 fixtures at the corners of the house and they always come on when we walk into the sensor zone. They're on an adjustable timer so they stay on for 10-15 minutes. They're also operated by a switch next to the door so we can turn them off when we go to bed or leave. I really don't need those lights to come on every time a deer walks down the driveway. I'm not sure when we'll be back there but I'll try to remember to jot down the info the next time we visit....See MoreDriveway Entry (X-post)
Comments (7)I want to thank you all for your sage counsel! I am currently waiting to hear from the Fed Ex insurance appraiser. You are correct, NHBabs. We had snowfall twice last year that reached the top of the wall or higher, as well as lesser amounts and ice storms that really do require a wall, fence, or structure of some type to alert guests to the culvert. Kitasei, I LOVE the idea of a “tumbled pillar” and if only I lived in the right type of home and neighborhood, that’s just what I’d do! The shrub is actually not a shrub (bad photo angle); it is two large evergreen shrubs and six large burning bushes encircling our outdoor electrical boxes where they do a fabulous job of camouflaging the boxes. We have landscapers come in the spring and fall (what we can afford) and they do a good job keeping them from encroaching on the driveway. I agree the boxwoods need to go. Littlebug, The house does have the same brick on it as the mailbox and wall on the driveway entry. What would you suggest we use? Or should we just try to get a close match? I don’t know about the driveway flare, though I wish there was one. The house was built in 1991 and we are the second owners. To my knowledge, this is the first time the wall has been hit (and we order online a lot!). So, that said, I have submitted an estimate to Fed Ex for the exact tear down and replacement of what’s there. Our current walls also have lighting in the grating as you can see in the photos below. If you have any ideas to make it more appealing while working with a fairly deep culvert to give our entry more style, I’d love to see them. Visual examples would be helpful, since unfortunately, I don’t have a design bone in my body!! Thank you again!!...See MoreEntrance gate driveway
