Comments (4)I am so making this on Friday for our out of town guest that will be here for the weekend. I've been thinking of what dessert to make and here it is! I thought about Molten Lava's or a flourless chocolate cake but this is way better for so many reasons. I can make it on Friday! Thanks for the clarification on the dough....See MoreA Couple More Cast Iron Questions
Comments (42)Lou - no, I've never seen Maggio's around here. I'm HORRIBLE with names lol!! I can see the containers of the two most popular brands we have here, the label designes and everything, but can I think of the names? No!! It'll come to me. I haven't had a chance to deal with my Lodge pan yet - I usually have to cram everything in on the weekends. I never have time after work to get much done and now with gardening season here, if I do get anything done, it's usually in the garden! I plan on taking care of it this weekend tho. And I'm going to check out ebay as well. Besides the nice way they cook and all, I really like that if you need to, you can take the cast iron from the stovetop to the oven. They're just so versatile. And not having to replace pans a couple times a year because they're ruined will be great as well!! I hope I can find some of these older pans everyone else is talking about! I go to flea markets all the time, but I was never looking for cast iron before so I never paid attention to what's available! Hopefully the cat isn't quite out of the bag yet on how great these old pans are and there's still a lot out there to pick from!! Lisa...See MoreThe latest wedding cake/cupcake tower
Comments (31)Woodie, I'm so happy to see you here again, I miss you! Sol, I'll help for Sam's wedding. My cake baking skills are nothing close to yours but I could mix batter or bring the mojitos or SOMETHING... Thank you, everyone. I was pleased with the way everything turned out and doubly pleased that the fondant bow made it there intact. The hearts inside the cupcakes. OK, I hate to admit that it was actually easy, I'd love to fib and tell you it was all difficult and technical. Bake a sheet cake layer of red velvet cake, cut hearts with a small cookie cutter, it has to be small enough to fit down inside the cupcake. Put a spoonful of batter into the cupcake paper or pan, set the heart into it and fill with batter, making sure the heart is covered with batter. Bake again, check for doneness slightly toward the edge. The only trick is that you have to mark the cupcake so you know which direction to cut or you just have a red glob visible from the side view, LOL. This would work with bunnies for Easter, trees or bells for Christmas, Shamrocks for St. Pat's, whatever strikes you and you have a cookie cutter for. It was actually more difficult to get the Snickers bars not to sink into the bottom of the cupcake, we had to eat a couple of batches before I figured out to freeze the candy before plopping it into the middle of the unbaked cupcake. It was a difficult job, but had to be done. (grin) I did have some dedicated volunteers that helped me with that one..... Annie...See MoreOlder Couple, First Marriage
Comments (12)What gellcom said. Very well stated. I have kids in their twenties, so a lot of my friends are helping plan weddings with their twenty-something-year-old daughters. I understand (at least I think I do) about the couple not wanting a first-wedding-in-their-twenties feel, but I think your friends in their sixties might be surprised to see how some of these first-wedding-in-their-twenties couples celebrate their marriage. Why don't you or they forget about that whole not-a-young-first-time-couple-in-their-twenties thing and look at what some of these young brides are doing? They're having no wedding attendants, or attendants of the opposite gender, or having their pets in the ceremony. They're going barefoot, or not. Weddings in the park, by a creek, by a pond, in a museum. Short dresses, long dresses, sundresses, whatever suits the bride best. Banjo music, harp music, classical music, pop music, whatever. Horseshoes, volleyball, sack races at the reception. Picnics, potlucks, doughnuts or ice cream in lieu of cake. If your friends want light-hearted, fun, sweet and out-of-the-box things to do at their wedding, some of these young brides are doing some wonderful things. Look on the internet and there are terrific ideas out there. The slideshow thing seems to be pretty common here regardless of the age of the bride and groom, and it's one of my favorite parts of the weddings I've attended. I think it's wonderful that this couple in their sixties have found each other and made this huge change in their lives, and that's very special. When I was planning my own wedding as a young bride many years ago, my parents were in a breakdown of their marriage that I was pretty sure was going to end in divorce (as it did). I can't tell you how much courage it took for me to walk down that aisle and make those vows "till death do us part". Making that commitment is a huge thing, whether the bride and groom are young people or in their eighties - beginning a life together is special for both young and old. There is something beautiful in keeping some of the traditions to honor the commitment that couples have been making to each other down through the ages. Best wishes and congratulations to your friends. I hope their wedding is everything they hope it will be, and their lives together even better. And congratulations, circuspeanut!...See Moreplllog
