DH and I took a few days off and went to The Outer Banks. He needed his ocean fix. Monday it was rather chilly so we went to see the new Steven Spielberg movie Bridge of Spies. It was excellent! However, we are use to going to a matinee here and maybe 30 - 40 people will be in a theater so you have your choice of seats. Since it was a cold day and not much else to do, the theater was crowded there and for the first 45 minutes to an hour, the couple behind us was eating something. First, probably popcorn in a paper container that rattled the whole time, then it was get out the candy box and shake it up while tearing it open, take out a few candies,put it back in purse for a few minutes, take it out again….you get the picture. I'm a very patient person (DH is not) but even I had to muster up my strength not to turn and say "are you going to eat through the WHOLE movie!! I kept looking around for a place to move to but the only other available seats were in the first 5 row section. Stiff neck or aggravation. Grrrrr. Just venting. When they finally ran out of food, the movie was most enjoyable. I highly recommend it.

Glad you liked the movie even though there were annoyances :o)

I go to matinee's at times when I'm just the only person. Sit anywhere, no babies, no cell phones, no gossiping between ladies.

GM, that same couple was sitting in the row behind me the last time I went to a movie!

glenda, that would be SO COOL to be the only person in the theater!!! :)

I just had a similar procedure. I broke off tooth #6 near the gum line. My regular dentist spoke about 3 options and the one she was said that had the best outcome was the most expensive, an implant. A friend of mine who is a dentist spied my broken tooth and said that he could fix the tooth at much lower cost. He recommended a root canal, post, and crown. A noble metal post (titanium) provides support to securely hold the crown; A root canal is needed for installation of the post and that is was what I chose. It has worked well. I have had several root canals and after the initial work, there may be some soreness in the connective tissue that holds the tooth, but that should subside in a couple of weeks. When tenderness persists, the tooth socket maybe infected or the bottom of the tooth was not well sealed after the root canal and permits a pocket for infection. Over a year ago, I had a root canal and cap and that one did remain tender for several months, but slowly improved until the tenderness went away. It never ached. If your tooth is aching, suspect infection in the surrounding tissue. After a root canal, there are no nerves left in the tooth. Any pain you feel is from nerves outside the tooth.

This isn't about what we're saying here, while the show is starting, but I'll just be glad when people have to talk about something else. It's good news that there isn't enough bad news to crowd out the Oscars, but I'm still bored with all the yammer yammer yammer surrounding them for the last month. [ETA: I'm talking about being bored by the fluff stuff here, not the very important discussion about what gets made and who gets hired for big studio/big budget work.] Like too many Academy members, I haven't seen enough of the films. One member said in an interview that the real issue with the lack of diversity is that the members don't conscientiously watch all the films (most of which are delivered free to them on DVD) because there are so many, and the old white guys aren't so likely to watch Beasts of No Nation, or Straight Outta Compton, just because the subject matter isn't appealing to them. I'm sure that's right. They don't appeal to me either, though I'll probably watch Straight Outta Compton, when it comes on HBO. But...The Revenant appeals to me less than Compton. Still, on buzz rather than personal opinion, I think The Revenant will take the big awards and Brie Larson will get best actress. Stalone will get it on sentiment unless too many of the old coots are people who didn't like him the first time around. Maybe Alicia Vikander for supporting actress.

My favourite quote is "I see dead people". I don't know if it's on the list or not. I always mentally acknowledge the talent of the writers who come up with these lines that we remember, coupled with the talent of the actors who deliver them in such a way that they are remembered.

We had a couple behind us like that at "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". The woman in particular slurped, munched, crunched, rustled, sniffed, coughed, blew her nose, and burped all through the movie and at one point left and then returned a few minutes later. At the end I wanted to ask her for her phone number so I could call her when part two came out and confirm she wasn't going to be there.

I can't stand the cell phone users, bright annoying light shining in my eyes. I like going to the early movies, last couple of times I had the theater to myself.

Glenda, when my movie group starts up (about 12 of us) we are usually the only ones in the theater so I'm spoiled.

The last time DH and I went to the movies a woman about 6 seats way from us kept looking at her smart phone. The bright white of her screen was easily visible especially since she held it up about face height.

The man next to me leaned toward her and said " turn that off" in a rather unpleasant voice. I was waiting for an argument but she did turn it off and when the movie was over the man next to me went over and apologized for his tone of voice.

Those sounds are truly annoying and I find it to be worse if the person is behind me as opposed to the side or front. We don't go to movies that often, but when we do, it's a matinee as well and we will usually wait until after it's been out for a while. To help avoid having someone behind us, we make a point to get there real early so we can sit in the first seats at the top.

The last time we went, there was a super bright camera like light pointing right into my eyes from the direction of the walkway. Thinking it was someone on their phone, I was going to go say something and then I realized it was actually a light on the side of a chair to offer light in the isle! It was way too bright. I probably should have mentioned it to the theater so they could fix it but I didn't.

I thought that cell phone usage was prohibited during the movie because of piracy.
