Which herbs to avoid in case of high blood pressure?
Comments (9)Hi John, I hope you are still following this thread. As a high blood pressure patient myself, my first concern is that you see your GP and get a basic check up and diagnosis, before you take anything at all. This is a subject too near and dear to my heart to pass by. During the check up, be sure they do a thyroid blood test, as both hyper and hypo thyroid, cause altered metabolism and high blood pressure. What you and I must avoid is a heart attack or stroke. If I have a stroke, I will be forced to watch my garden go to rack and ruin. :-( As it is now, I am as in control as possible, but I must be careful with all garden tasks, and take much longer to complete projects that in the past. IF I had gone in, and been diagnosed correctly years back, the solution would have been simple, and I could be running at normal speed. Not being able to ever again hike up a steep hill and enjoy the wildflowers is one of my biggest regrets. Back then, when things were only starting to go bad... I sounded exactly like you do in this first post. I know you fellows think going to the doctor is for girls...but this time you really need to just call and make an appointment. Not knowing does not make it go away. And not knowing but aware...causes stress...which causes long term damage to the immune system, and then the heart. With no diagnosis... and not knowing your current thyroid status, I will strongly advise against adding any so called safe supplements... the wrong guess and "bad to much worse" is the story. We get new people all the time being diagnosed either hyper or hypo... all because they added the wrong vitamins and herbs, thinking it was harmless and so basic and simple... it wouldn't hurt them. And I have to tell all of you... as a long term support person elsewhere... I am tired of picking up the damaged patients. Let's always insist on a diagnosis before a cure is prescribed. Don't take me wrong. I am a huge supporter of alternative healing, and my use of supplements and herbals was a HUGE part of my own "rare" success/ remission. But ya gotta' be aware of all the possible problems before hand. Be smart and careful. AFTER you have a diagnosis, THEN self education and a good, experienced NP will be of great value. We need to enjoy our golden years . Plus... have the opportunity to finally enjoy those tiny little plants we started, the ones that had to grow for years and years to be magnificent. ;) I'm starting to see this... and can not even start to tell you the joy ! Take care of yourself, so we can all enjoy your garden. :-D -Pam L- my rant for the year ;) Don't be skeeered... I'm really am nice, *lol*...See MorePressure Canning Tomatoes
Comments (45)Sour salt and citric acid are the same thing. There is no question about that. Health food stores carry citric acid. Have you checked them? And as I said in your other long thread, you are clearly shopping in the wrong stores for canning supplies but since we have no idea where you live, we can't direct you to the better stores. You'll have to find them yourself. But if you can't find it or you don't want to spend the money on it and you don't want to order online - as you have made abundently clear - then just use the lemon juice. You have already made up your mind that it will "ruin your tomatoes" even though you have never even tried it. So even though you have no basis for that opinion, you'd likely say the same thing about citric acid if you ever got it. We can tell you till we are blue in the face that it won't but you won't agree and we just keep debating the same things over and over and over. So, since it is clear that you don't wish to add either, don't. As we have all said several times, just skip it if you want. It's your risk to take. You don't seem to be inclined to believe us that it is needed anyway. greenhouser - You are honestly making the whole process of home canning so complicated that it will never be any fun for you and that is sad because that is half the joy of doing it. Dave PS: I honestly cannot imagine how anyone could spend $300 on canning equipment even if they foolishly bought an All American pressure canner unless they have no idea how to comparison shop or are paying artificially inflated prices for things or buying equipment they really don't need. But it's your money....See MoreOT: Browsing vs ordering at library and bookstore
Comments (24)What is SKYM ??? What would the world be w/out book browsing places? Living in NY City there are quite a few book stores, but -- alas, thanks to Barnes and (ig)Noble, so many of the independents have gone out of business. Luckily, there's still the wonderful Strand -- full of new and tons of out-of-publication books. Like digging for buried treasure ... then finding some fascinating-looking book that's out-of-print and (probably) will never be re-published, that turns out to be a GEM...and you end up keeping it for life because you know you'll want to read it again someday! I need to touch -- HANDLE -- each book that catches my eye. It goes much faster, too, as far as flipping through the first pages, reading the back cover reviews and synopsis .... quicker than on a computer! Also, I like to GET OUT, and it's fun to sometimes get into a conversation w/a clerk or another shopper. I've discovered soooooo many good books buy browsing inside a store!...See MoreMy Weird Library Experience
Comments (49)It is not only students who are demanding and thoughtless about assignments. We asked the lecturers at our local university to give us a list of items that needed copies prepared by library staff for the next term assignments before they went away. I was told that the pressure of work caused by collecting and photocopying these books would be so great that I would not be able to take leave myself. My husband had the opportunity for us to go for a fortnight free of charge to a lovely holiday island but we had to turn it down. Only a few of the lecturers gave us lists but all those who had not demanded that we prepare their copies urgently after they returned from their trip. Would you believe that they had all gone to the holiday island! I could have gone up there and bugged them for the lists so the staff would have had the work prepared and had my freeby too! I was furious....See More- 10 years ago
