Venting a gas dryer
Comments (7)Gas has to be vented outside or carbon monoxide could leak into the home. Electric could be vented into the garage but you'd have to deal with moisture and condensation. You really wont have too many issues with a 12 foot run. The maximum length depends on the type of ducting material used. Here is a chart of maximum lengths: For 4" exhaust hoods and 4" diameter rigid heavy metal vent: # of 90 degree turns Maximum length 0------------------------ 64 ft. 1 ------------------------ 54 ft. 2 ------------------------ 44 ft. 3 ------------------------ 35 ft. 4 ------------------------ 27 ft. For 4" exhaust hoods and 4" diameter flexible heavy metal vent: 0------------------------ 36 ft. 1 ------------------------ 31 ft. 2 ------------------------ 27 ft. 3 ------------------------ 25 ft. 4 ------------------------ 23 ft....See MoreCan washer and dryer pipes and the vent hose be recessed in wall?
Comments (4)bear in mind that water supply pipes in an outside wall may face code limitations because of the possibility of freezing. Otherwise, however, you should be able to put the supply pipes inside the wall, adn same for the exhaust vent and waste pipe. Here's an example of a rough-in box for the supply and waste: http://www.plumbingsupply.com/images/rough-metal-washing-machine-outlet-box.jpg...See MoreDryer vent hose
Comments (5)FYI, I just bought one of those Hard Duck dryer venting kits, and I'll try to remember to followup after it is installed. I'm so sick of my flexible metal venting tubing getting bent and broken and needing to be replace, we'll see if this really is a permanent solution. (It better be for the expense, but it will pay for itself in no time if it really is permanent both through energy savings and the expense of having to replace the vent tubing. Plus it will massively reduce the liklihood of fires.)...See MoreVenting Basement Dryer & Gas Tankless Water Heater
Comments (5)Hi David, Often venting can happen through the rim joist (so between floor joists) which is generally above grade. Your layout may not allow for that though. As far as I'm aware, venting the heater using PVC should be fine exiting below grade (assuming it's a condensing unit designed to vent through PVC). I'm not sure how to do that with the dryer vent though. PVC is not approved for dryer vents and metal vent underground is really a bad idea. Since you have a basement - do consider an electric hybrid water heater instead. They are similar or less to operate and much cheaper to install....See Moregardener123
