Best soil for dwarf pomegranate tree?

I have an indoor dwarf pomegranate tree, and I'm wondering what would be the best soil type when I repot it in early spring. If anyone could provide a link to a pre-made mix that I could purchase online, that would be ideal. Thanks!

you might also try the houseplant forum .. for opinion other than come here ... also ... i think there are a lot of peeps who do citrus indoors ... and there is a citrus forum .....

if i were to try to grow trees... indoors ... i would think about 50% cactus mix.. with 50% basic peat product ...

high full drainage ...

most trees simply dont want to sit around with soggy roots.. like many houseplant can and do ....

It's not quite as simple as just buying a pre-made potting mix. Most are usually quite deficient in their ability to maintain a containerized plant long term. I'd suggest you investigate the Container Gardening forum - there are numerous discussions on soil mixes but the 5-1-1 or gritty mix are two that are discussed at length as offering the best conditions and potential for any containerized plant (houseplant, citrus, succulent or any outdoor plant). Two links in particular will help you: this one on container soils and also one on growing tree in containers.

The Container Gardening forum is very active and there are many knowledgeable participants that can help you with any questions.

Hi Lucy, Thanks for your answer! I don't see how to post a photo - could you tell me how? As of today it's improving - quite a few new buds and leaves, counted at least 16 that bursted out between this morning and midnight - pretty exciting bc it looked dire a few days ago! I've always watered from top - never left soggy. Temperature has been between 72-80 F, maybe a tad more due to faulty ac.. After posting the initial message I added a second platter with water below (under the drainage tray) for humidity - appears it may be helping.. Just checked the bottom of the pot and noticed that there is indeed one root poking out now (wasn't there 6 weeks ago). Should I repot? Or would that be too stressful now? First off I would visualise how you would like the tree too look when its finished. Look at other trees draw pictures etc.. to get the image in your head. After you have that accomplished the first thing I would do is allow the tree to grow almost completely unchecked until you have a sufficient trunk diameter to that of which you would like to have when the tree is finished this is the most time consuming stage of development but can be mostly bypassed by purchasing advanced tree stock that already has good trunk girth. Kinda of no such thing as overwatering for bonsai, given proper soil with very good drainage. Not sure what your issue is, but I know my bonsai pomegranates have always gone through some rough patches but always come back with a vengeance. Some good fertilizer probably would not hurt. Of course, consistent strong light and warmth are imperative for keeping these normally deciduous/semi-deciduous plants green.

I wouldn't fret about it too much. After a week or two, cut the watering to 2x per week.
