Show me your pendant lights in your kitchen
Comments (16)Hi boxerpups, I'm glad you like them. I do think they would look nice in your space. I love that they are pretty without being too overwhelming. They are nice and small... which I had a hard time finding something I liked (with the right price because we needed 5). Since we were putting them up in multiple, I didn't want something too big. They are a dark bronze, which I think blends nicely with our dark grayish/black counters. I'm sure you could spray paint them with a matte black if you wanted them to be a true black. Luckily at $19, you could test one. Here is photo of the pendants as they came originally... the original shades were a bit bigger in diameter. The clear glass shades I ended up swapping were also from Lowes for $3. If I remember correctly, they may have been in the section with the glass bathroom shades (on the same aisle as the rest of the lights at our Lowes)....See MorePlease show me your small living/family room
Comments (42)I like the idea of the TV being on the wall opposite the window and the couch up against the window, but I wonder if it will be a problem since that is sort of a hallway area. I guess the other problem I would run into is where to put the cable box etc. I will do a little mock up of it today or do a computer drawing to see how it will all look. Painting the trim around the window can be done, I will have to fight with DH, since he loves it and says that it mirrors the window trim in the kitchen. @loribee and @oceanna I have taken a look at the gallery. Lots of great ideas with colors etc. I just keep thinking 'if only I had an extra 2 feet of living room space . . . ' Of course that would be too easy :-) @loribee, I was able to open the link that you sent me and something along those lines is what I was thinking for the chair. I prefer the ones with arms, though so I was thinking something small like that one, with open arms like the one in @chickadee2's link. I also like these chairs quite a lot. I have also toyed with @luckygal's idea of moving the living room to the office. The office is 9'x11'. I agree with the idea of at the very least painting the trim. I have seen some pics of it done, and it looks great. I was scared about doing it, but now I think I will. I also like the idea of a creamy color that was suggested for the walls and trim. If I work up the courage, I will remove the trim all together. Thanks again for all the wonderful thoughtful suggestions....See MoreIs your kitchen open to your living room?
Comments (45)Since I'm in a 15-foot wide (at its widest) row house, my first floor is essentially one long narrow space of vestibule, living room, dining room (separated by a double wide pocket door, which is virtually never closed) then kitchen. Originally, the dining room and kitchen were separated by a wall and back stairway, but I took the stairway out and opened them in to each other, providing much better light to the dining room. I like it that way, not only for the better light, but because this area functions for me as cooking/working/living/entertaining space. I'm upstairs only to sleep and bathe. But, this is important...I will soon be on my own (son leaves for boot camp in Sept.) and didn't need or want a separate quiet place and or a formal living room that would rarely be used. And even now, my son has his own "chill" room along with his bedroom and bath on the 3rd floor, so there's not a lot of spillover noise/activity from one part of the first floor to another....See MoreBlank kitchen layout....show me your thoughts/ideas
Comments (14)Pony wall makes no difference for function, but I was trying to hide some of the dish mess and give you a separate clean-up area, where there is no zone crossing during prep and cooking time. It wouldn't be difficult to extend the pony wall to the ceiling. There are windows flanking the range--I just forgot to remove the label. It is open concept, with easy interaction between the cook(s) and anyone in the LR, but it sounds as if that's too much interaction for you. I feel the same--we closed up a wide pass-through from the kitchen to the LR when we bought our house. I also switched the door and window in the DR (door could be a single or French door). Accurate plan: M/L flipped to the other side--I don't think you could have seating at the island, except for a seat on the end, unless you cut the top at an angle (red lines). the entry from the deck would need to be a single door, 60" French doors, or single with side lights: Eta, with the kitchen and DR flipped, you could have a deeper, framed pantry wall, with a coffee center or bar in the middle section. Drawing the plans is no problem--I just rearrange boxes in my Paint program, but all the rearranging of the windows and doors on the back wall might be more than you want do. Good luck! :...See Moremushcreek
