Paint gurus....Manchester Tan paint fail:(
Comments (47)I was just going to add I'm glad your DH went and bought the actual BM Manchester Tan. I too have learned the hard way not to attempt to match BM paint colors with other brands. It's not that other brands don't have good paint, its the way BM colors are made. You can probably match just about any other paint brand color with a BM paint, but it really is not a good idea to take a BM paint color and match to a different brand. My BM Elmira White match with a SW paint turned out with ugly pink undertones which I didn't catch until everything had been painted and then it couldn't be undone. I've had to live with it for years thinking it was just not the right paint color only to get the actual BM paint and find that no, it was the SW match. The real BM color is beautiful and I will now be repainting with it unless I choose another color. It's frustrating because most painters work with SW paint because it is easy to find. But I love BM and will just have to pay up for it....See MoreSW color closest to BM Clay Beige
Comments (7)I looked up Wool Skein and it seems like it is more of a yellowish-beige than a gray/greige like Clay Beige. I am open to other suggestions as well. Yep. Closet color is different from a color match. Out of all the SW colors, Wool Skein is the most like Clay Beige in terms of hue, value, chroma and LRV. And it's true that color can be off from one purchase to the next. Even the shaker speed can affect how the colorants are blended into the base. It's always a good idea to buy the quantity you need the first time around....See MoreLooking for a nice complimentary color for accessible beige. Help!
Comments (6)Thanks for responding. We painted the guest room Chivalry Copper (Makes the room look old to me). I love the beige/taupe/creams/grays. My home office is painted balanced beige, my son's room is painted worldly gray, our master bedroom is painted bradstreet beige with jackson tan accent wall and now I'm looking to repaint the guest room. I'm also considering repainting the bradstreet beige ( I see pink in that color). I'm hopeful this site can assist me in making some good choices for both the guest room and master bedroom. Comments (17)Hi! Here's an update on paint colors I chose for my north-facing kitchen. For the doors and trim, I went with Sherwin Williams Westhighland White. I absolutely love it. It's also the color I painted my brown kitchen table. *BUT* word of caution here: we also painted the ceiling in Westhighland White flat ceiling paint and it darkened the room! My husband was very unhappy that he was going to have to repaint it as the kitchen is about 16' x 20', so it's a big ceiling. But, back to the SW's store where an employee saved my marriage by selling us a can of Extra White and I asked for it in satin because the previous ceiling (painted by a contractor with generic white) had a sheen to it. As the Extra White was applied, you could noticeably see the yellow undertones of the Westhighland White. Still love WW on the table, doors and trim, just not for the ceiling. Now for the walls. Overall, I tried 9 different samples before finding the perfect one: Sherwin Williams Natural Linen. Here's the breakdown: 1) Kilim Beige: too dark for what I was going for and gray undertones 2) Softer Tan: lighter but still too dark and I just didn't like the tone 3) Divine White: way too light 4) Patience: a bit too light and with yellow undertones, it was too close to what I'd had for years. I was looking for something new 5) Wool Skein: noticeable green undertones 6) Only Natural: a pretty shade, but in my kitchen, it presented with pink undertones which made my Santa Cecilia granite countertops look dirty! If I'd used this color, nothing would have made the kitchen look clean, ever 7) Natural Tan, and 8) Sand Dollar - can't remember why I didn't like these last two, but they just didn't work Natural Linen is the perfect shade to go with the cabinets which are that orange-y shade, it goes with the granite, backsplash, almost all my wall decor (might have to swap out a clock) and the vinyl floor. I have the popular leaf fabric (beige, gold, red) covering the window seat cushion and it even goes perfectly with that. There's just enough color in Natural Linen to contrast with the creamy Westhighland White while still keeping the room light and bright. We are still in the process of painting. I plan to come back and share a couple photos in a few weeks. Stay tuned!...See Moreeld6161
