Exercise! Do you exercise regularly?
Comments (26)Unfortunately, I am very lax on exercising... I used to go to the pool and exercise when I lived in former town, but it got to the place the chemicals made me itch and break out so badly that my skin bled... I walked 3-4 miles a day...then came 3 joint replacements and arthritis in every joint in my body and I have constant pain. The surgeon who relpaced one of my hips, cut the nerves and I walk with a terrible wabble and it feels like it is caving in with each step, and no fixing it...the nerves are dead....so makes my back hurt and have terrible balance when I do try to walk. I have gained a lot of weight and it know it makes all of my health problems worse..plus I am blessed with tremors in my hands..so I think I have just given up on extending my years. I am able to keep up with my house and take care of my personal needs, but life has lost its "fun" for me any more....See MoreAny exercise gurus here?
Comments (11)Disclaimer: I am not a trained professional weight lifter or trainer. To me it sounds like you need to increase the weights. I do about 5-10 reps, 3 sets. The old way of thinking was that women should do lower weights higher reps but that is no longer the recommendation. We aren't going to bulk up like the hulk so higher weights are good. I lift 5x / week right now (alternating upper and lower body). If squats aren't doing it alone, then add weights to your squats. I always hold added weight with my squats. Try goblet squats too. You can also try squatting side steps. Sometimes I'll do them around my basement one direction and then the other. There's also the good old fashoned wall sit from gym class (keep knees 90 degrees, don't use your hands for support). As for the shoulder, you might have an injury. It's absolutely possible to do minor injury like small tears and still be able to continue exercising with some pain. I'd give it some time to rest and then start in slow with maybe pushups from the knees instead of plank position. You might also need to add in some other shoulder exercises to strengthen surrounding muscles to support injured tissue after you've rested for healing. Soft tissue injuries can be slow to heal and it takes more and more time as we age. I don't do much abs-specific work myself. You might try looking up alternative ab workouts to try something new. There are so many different options out there and if you're not feeling the burn, you probably have plenty of strength for the exercises you're doing there. You may need to try a different type of ab exercise to hit different muscle groups or add some weights to the mix with your current exercises (ankle or hold a dumbell or kettlebell)....See MoreDo you follow exercise videos on youtube?
Comments (13)I follow BodyFit by Amy, Fitness with PJ (she is a little obnoxious and not for everyone, but I like the workouts), Keep the Adventure Alive with Alyssa Kuhn, and just started Forever Yoga with Susannah. I work out every morning with one or more of them. I'm trying to use heavier weights and more impact to try to help my bones. I'll be watching this thread for more ideas....See More7.5 x 9.5’ exercise closet
Comments (13)The reason all you see are black mats and mirror ? Generally, folks want weights. A yoga mat. rubber bands. etc in addition to any cardio equipment. A full mirror brightens any gym but plays an equally important role in allowing the users to check their form when doing ANY exercise from free weights to Pilates to yoga. I've nothing against Peleton, or any other cardio such as elipticals or treadmill. But if you want the much improved "body" and the long term weight control, and strength and agility ? You want more in your workout and more space. You also don't want to ruin the flooring in the closet. The hard rubber mat in a gym is over a concrete slab. ......and a kids play mat won't do the trick. If the guests are infrequent? Take the entire room ! Yes, to giving your heart a workout - but add free weights and bands and be astounded. Think six days a week , three for the Peleton and three for strength and agility - you will look in a mirror at yourself in six months and your day will most definitely start........bright : ) and you'll FEEL it too. If you've ever wondered why folks are able to "drag" themselves to a gym daily? It's the spirit of others, the vast variety of ways to exercise every muscle and a lot of it is the big one in your head. That's the one that counts in the end and makes you stick with it for a life time....See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
