What flooring did you do in your finished basement?
Comments (38)I did our basement floor with Delta-FL (like dricore but all plastic) as a "subfloor" and Allure linoleum floating floor from HD. It meets requirements (cheap tough dry play room) but it is not a proper installation. The delta product wants a sub floor if the laminate is not used. Because the floor does not have a proper subfloor it is really soft - which is great for 4 young kids banging their heads, but not for heavy furnature feet. We have had problems with water in the basement. I have made some changes outside (grading and downspouts) that I hope fixes the problem. However, I still plan to have water down there at somepoint. The Delta keeps the floor off the concrete and a sump pump makes sure it gets rid of any water that might accumilate. If the pump fails or some other problem and the basement floods, the linoleum is water proof. Delta is $0.51/sq ft and the Allure was $1.67/sq ft....See MoreCork Floor in Basement -Manufacturer? iFloor?
Comments (6)We used a brand of cork called "Natural Cork". This is a floating flloor that is approved for below grade installation. We installed many sq ft of it 6 yrs ago, and it is fine. With that being said....I will not use cork again. It does not hold up well with kids. I have lots of gouges in mine, from what I would describe as normal wear and tear. My cork is very light. Perhaps, those gouges would not show up with a darker cork....See MoreCork for subgrade or basement floor?
Comments (2)We installed our cork floor below grade. Our house is built into a hill and is what could be best described as a "berm home". Our main living space is a slab, and is underground in half the house, the rest is "walkout". We put durodesign cork in most of the areas on the main level with no problem. I went back and forth with tons of people on this, because some people consider us below grade, others don't. Ultimately we chose the glue down cork from duro and we've had no problems in the year it's been down (i don't think I'd do floating). We do have a vapor barrier under the slab so if you don't have that, I don't know what your experience will be. For us though, the cork is great. Warm on your feet (since we're on slab), quiet, insulating, easy to care for. It was a great choice for us....See MoreWhat cork flooring manufacturer is best?
Comments (12)Again, repeating response to patma's complaint. I don't think your problem was with the cork. It was with the floating floor which is a thin layer of cork over a cardboard type substrate. Wood-look or Tile-look laminate flooring also has that same problem. Our glue down tiles are fine with water. I have boys who constantly leave ice cubes on the floor(from the through-the-door frig dispenser) and I had a dishwasher leak that flooded the floor overnight once. The floor is fine because it was glue-down cork which is cork the whole way through. Think about it - cork sits in wine bottles for years and is fine. Incidentally, I think it's very strange that patma felt it necessary to revive such old threads to post the complaint so many times....See More2rickies
