Surprised you've never grown Epiphyllums ?? There are dozens if not hundreds of types with dozens of colors and forms many aromas as well as night /day flowering some even produce fantastic fruit . Most are semi epiphytic .About the only thing I've found that will kill them is too much water

Orchid type mixes work well for most of them. My only complaint about them is some forms get gigantic but they look good climbing through the trees and very easy to prune .. I've tried for several years to get them to attach to the trees but find they need some type of pot the roots are only weakly adhesive at least in the types I've tried . Some of the worlds most spectacular flowers for sure!!! gary

It does look like mine, I got it as a small cutting and grew fast! the flowers are white and they last one day.

Gary, it is odd that I've never even seen one before. We moved to Florida from NY three years now, I'm finding so many plants I never saw in NY.

I'm basically an orchid grower and have had to change my routine with them since moving here....soooo much easier!

This time of year in NY, everything would have been moved back inside the house, lights and tables set up and half my living room would be filled with orchids.

Now, they stay on the patio! Its like a vacation every day!

I'll pot these cuttings up in some orchid mix and decide how to deal with them. They actually remind me of Christmas Cactus which I did grow in NY.

Do you think they do better in baskets? I'm thinking they might.

Here is a pic of the night flowering white . It is growing in a pot in a carombola tree . As you can see it gets rather long lol.. i also grow some in a cluster of areca palms . Most of the others are in hanging pots including the holiday cactus . I want them to attach to the trees and though they produce aerial roots they never attach !! I saw some C. cactus growing wild in Costa Rica but couldn't get close enough to determine how they attached but were in forks of trees where debris collected never just attached to the limbs like orchids and Broms . All are very easy to grow IME. just need good drainage .

Have always wanted to get some of the larger day flowering types but always had some other project going. All the ones I have i got from cuttings from neighbors . Good luck gary

I had a plant that was very similar to yours and it was called a night blooming cereus. It bloomed one night out of the year and the flowers were very stinky. I think it's from the cactus family.

The scientific name is epiphyllum oxypetalum.

Thats beautiful, Gary. Maybe I'll try the cuttings in a basket. I know I have two different varieties. My neighbor (who gave me the cuttings) said one is the night blooming. The other is a day bloomer but only lasts a day.

I had a variety once that was given to me as Squirrels tail" It was triangular in shape rather than flat. Every square inch was covered with spines longer than the leaves lol. The remarkable part was the spines were very soft and dense much like cat hair, I couldn't pass by without "petting" it lol I lost it and blamed it on too much rain but maybe too much petting ?? Would love to find an ID or get another one . I usually dislike plants with spines but this one was special. Sure would like to find another. gary

I agree with night blooming cereus. I've had mine for about 20 years and it's about 6 feet tall because I trim it back. The flowers are the most beautiful zi have ever seen and they have a heavenly smell - very strong and heady. These plants don't need much water. They prefer to stay a little dry between waterings. They also like morning sun or equivalent.

silvia yours doesn't look quite the same as Jane's. Not sure what yours is.
