Famous people you have met or known
Comments (61)As a 9 year old kid in Elk City, OK in 1950, I met Tim Holt, Fuzzy Knight & Randolph Scott who were some of my favorite cowboy movie stars that made personal appearances at a local movie theatre. And, during our town's 50th. anniversary in 1951 I met & shook hands with Jess Willard who had been the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World, 1915-1919. He lived in my hometown during the early days & helped lay the bricks that paved Broadway St. and are still there and "in use" now in 2006! Moving ahead several years and after I had moved to PA...my wife & I saw Richard M. Nixon as he arrived by helicopter and dined at the then-famous Bookbinder's Restaurant in Philadelphia one evening while we were eating dinner there also. Then later, during the mid-1970's, we saw "The Duke" John Wayne in New York City getting out of his limousine and greeting the gathering crowd at Rockefeller Center. Guess that's about it... Comments (2)Woah, they're selling that stuff on German Ebay, complete with 3M or magnetic attachments, "so you can easily take it with you when you move." Something like 200.00 Euros for 4 feet long (10.00 for shipping). Here is a link that might be useful: Ebay...See MoreDecorative blue prints
Comments (12)Cool. This is all sounding promising! A few years back, I was a docent at a kitchen walk in the mansion district of my hometown (which is the opposite end of town from where I live), and the house I was in had framed, original blue prints in one of the rooms. I think that's what gave me the idea. Plus we are planning to have a birthday party when our house turns 100, so I am getting sentimental about it, even though we've only lived here 16 years. And a couple years ago I got serious about decorating our foyer, and that seemed a great place for the blue prints. There's been an empty-looking space on the wall next to the door for quite a while now!...See MoreHave you ever been obsessed by a famous historical figure?
Comments (43)I've spent a lot of time with Louisa May Alcott. Her backstory is so fascinating - as are many people of her era - & the era itself. Another that really captured me was Henriette Deluzy-Desportes. After seeing the Bette Davis/Charles Boyer movie, "All This And Heaven Too", I had to get the book to read (which chronicled so much more of her life) & then became interested in its author, Rachel Field, who also had a very interesting backstory, being related to Henriette through the man she ultimately married. Her introduction to that book describes how she grew up picnicking amongst the tombstones of her new England ancestors & how it inspired her to research & write about this mysterious woman.
