I think the mirror is a bit high and you have too many items on the table. It is a lovely table, looks good in that spot as far as scale is concern imo. I would center the table and leave just the lamp and books/candle. I would move the mirror down a couple of inches. I would also remove the basket on the floor.

I agree that maybe the mirror should go horizontal. Your ceilings are high and it leaves the mirror the way it is now looking like there needs to be more. I also agree about editing a couple of things on the table.

After re-orienting the mirror to vertical, add something interesting to the opposite wall if it's still reflected in the mirror.

The basket looks like a basket of laundry and takes away from the lovely shape of the table. The lamp should be bigger.

It's a modern piece so I'd remove the old fashioned dresser scarf. I think the two groups of items are too similar--a vase, books, a tall thing. I like the books laying down but not the ones on edge, so I'd leave only the lamp on the left side and go from there.

I think the dark wood tone of the mirror and the size of the frame is throwing the balance off. But, since you probably don't want to go out and buy a new mirror try staging something similar to the photo below by putting your flowers in a shorter vase (center it under the mirror), use a larger lamp and then finish with 1-2 books on the end. Or use a small figurine/sculpture instead of the book(s).

Me.....I would keep my eye out for a remnant of dark marble, or buy a piece of dark tinted glass, to replace the clear glass top. That would add more visual weight to the table and make the overall arrangement look less top heavy.

Don't worry about the lamp cord......just make a small loop of the excess and use a twist tie to hold it neatly together.

Very nice table. I like the idea of the mirror flipped and I'd drop the height to about 6" above the table.

I love that table. I wanted the end and coffee table in that style, but never got them. Would have loved this table too.
Here's a little mock up to give you an idea of what I think could work. Not necessarily these items but more for an idea of placement and scale. As for the outlet and cord, I'd paint the outlet plate to match the wall and the same with the cord too or get a cord cover in a color that would blend in with the wall. You could also had cord clips to the back of the table legs to run the cord through so very little of it shows.
I'd also put some dried florals in the the vases to add a bit more height, but It's bedtime and it takes awhile to do these things.
So basically.
1. center table
2. remove the runner
3. turn mirror vertical
4. add a taller lamp
5. group small items of various heights in a tray
6. leave the floor bare.

LOVE your table. It should be "decorated" with things that are YOU..not with things purchased FOR THAT SPOT.

That table is beautiful! What strikes me is that the mirror and table aren't centered on the wall. Is there a reason for that? My guess is you were centering it based on looking at it from down the hallway, since there appears to be a cut-in wall there.

love the mockup that justgabeme did, just one thing I would change is the lamp base. I think it should be a solid base, heavier looking one, the see through base looks too cluttery and visually light to me.

Thank you RoseAbbey. The main reason I chose that lamp is because it was square and easy to place using the program (Paint) that I use. I have yet to remember when our son has time, to ask him to load Power Point on my laptop, which I hear works great for placing things in front on another without having too much clean up to do. I was able to get that lamp in front of the mirror with just nine copy and pastes of all rectangle pieces with only having to copy and paste some of the glass of the table top on either side of the two small rods and between them. And that was the easy part of the whole thing. The walls, the baseboard, removing the objects on the table including the runner, the table top itself to remake, one leg of the table that was hidden by the basket before, the baseboard, the carpet. That and doing searches for things to place on the table and a new mirror that was not distorted by the angle the photo was taken.
Which reminds me, I wonder if the mirror frame would look better if it could be painted in a color that would better match the legs of the table. Not exactly, but more in that tone, or maybe a copper color? Just a thought.

That's understandable, but as long as the table doesn't protrude the actually doorway, it should be fine.

That being said, I'm not crazy about the reflection. It's just a blank wall. I would put some colorful art on that wall.

Southerngirl, that's hard to say, art is such a personal thing.

Here are the the most inexpensive pieces of art I have:

- Pictures I've taken myself and framed. I have a great picture of waves at the beach that I took with my Iphone

- I found some really cool looking fabric that I stretched and stabled onto a canvas

- Children's art in a pretty frame

- Garage sale stained glass still in a window frame- A grouping of family photos

You can find inexpensive frames, matte and canvas at art stores like Michael's.

Check out World Market. I was surprised recently at a high-end bath featured on Houzz to see the (I thought) original art was from World Market. The photo had many questions asking the artist so others were surprised, as well. I checked online and it looks like their artwork runs around $100.

Would this lamp work or is cream the wrong color because of the wall? We will paint eventually but not for a while.

southerngirl1913, I think your mirror and table look great since you moved them to the center. The only thing I would change is moving the lamp and vase a bit more toward the edge of the table so that the mirror frame is not blocked so much. And that stuff in your first pic should go back on the table, or maybe a small catch all ceramic dish or something.

I'm going to look for a tray and add decor items to it. I just didn't have luck finding one within my measly budget today.

Looks great! You could set the lamp on the books to give it some height and remove the flowers from the vase to reduce its height. I love the vase, but it seems too "pretty" to stand up to the heft of your mirror and table. I'd like a squatty, wide piece of pottery. You can also look somewhere like Odd Lots (if you have them) for a tray or candle tray, and just throw a few pine cones on it for some seasonal texture.

The new arrangement looks really good!

One more thought-have the lamp rewired with the clear wiring-it won't be so obvious and isn't expensive. Maybe you or your husband could even do it. It is supposed to be easy to do. Love the table.

I wonder how a dark shade, similar to its base or mirror frame color, would look on the lamp? This might stretch it visually.

I think the scale of the flowers and vase are fine It's the lamp base that's too small in scale for the table and frame,, which I see you are looking already looking to replace. Since your budget is tight, you might want to check local thrift stores, Craigslist or fb for sale pages too. I've found some amazing used lamps. If they are the wrong color you can always spray paint them.
If you want to stick with retail, then Hobby Lobby often have their lamps on sale or you could use their 40% off one regular priced item coupon.
