Is the showerhead 1 that can be moved up,down, sideways? Then you can move it over to wall when "warming up the shower, push it over to where you want it while in the shower. It's a head with swivel & may have only about 1 in. width at bottom- look cheap but do the job. Our L.A.W.D.P. hands them out from time to time & I can also turn it off by pushing button to other side of it like a lamp switch. They sell for around $5. here at hardware store. Might have some fancy ones I don't know. I took a nice 1 off as it couldn't be moved & wasn't in right spot for me. If it has the button switch you can turn it off when it's warm & step in & turn it back on without moving the water around. Hope this helps!

As for moisture permeation, even if the joint's NOT cracked, moisture can still get through. The caulking is there to provide for a moveable joint, not a watertight one. As for why more installers don't use caulking, it's because they don't know any better, are too lazy, or don't want to spend the extra money on some stupid customer.

A shower bench is a no brainer. The shower bench makes using the shower more enjoyable and does add to any romantic encounters you may have. Found this thread and wondering what people think of my potential use of large format. I originally wanted 12x24 but they won't be getting anymore of the tile I love, but they have 24x24 polished ceramic rectified so I grabbed that. My one shower wall is concerning to me. The wet wall will be 35" wide. I am torn between two tile layout options: 1. Cut each tile to 17.5" and put the grout line right down the middle of the wall so it's symmetrical. 2. Cut the tiles and put the grout line so that the grout line is exactly in between the wall and where the glass shower door will be. So when you're in the shower, it looks symmetrical. The tile with the shower door on it will likely be 1"-2" wider as the shower panel will be about 1"-2" in from the corner of the wall.
