Opinions on extended warranty for GE Monogram induction cooktop?
Comments (4)Extended warranties are a crapshoot. Generally if the thing doesn't break during the warranty period you're ok for a good while. On the other hand, with electronics in lots of the appliance the risk does go up particularly where heat is involved. You've been assuming that if something breaks you'd use the money you saved to buy a new one and the prices of things are way up now. I assume that the money I save on the extended warranties will go to a service call to fix the thing and overall I'm way ahead. The other advantage of not having an extended warranty is that you have the flexibility to call a reliable repair place to do the repair rather than being stuck with using whomever the extended warranty supplies - you should read the thread on A&E to see how bad it can get!...See MoreAre any freezerless fridges reliable?
Comments (9)Hi Guys and thanks for the replies. Phil: Did you read favourable reviews for the Liebherr? I did not come across too many reviews on the Liebherr all fridge, but there were a few bad ones. I will do some more research, and go see one for sure. Weedmeister, Kenmore is not a brand I have seen. I will go to Sears and take a good look -- thanks. Marie -- A subzero would be simply wonderful. I don't think a Subzero would get the nod from my DH though as he is still in shock from the price of the Thermador. Glad to know SZ fridges are worth the cost though. Everyone: Anyone out there own the Thermador Column fridge? Is it worth the extra cost over a mid-priced fridge. Thanks and more comments welcome. Carol...See MoreLiebherr reliability
Comments (33)When I was buying my kitchen equipment 4 years ago I had the difficult decision on what refrigerator to buy. After much consideration I went ahead and bought the liebherr 24" bottom freezer model. I would without hesitation like to add my name to the liebherr haters club. Over the four years of ownership I have had the refrigerator repaired at least 12 times. I have thrown out enough food to justify the additional cost of a sub zero. I have woken up in the middle of the night countless times with the temperature alarm going off to discover the temp was up as high as 60 degrees. I have unplugged and reset it so many times I can find the breaker in the electrical panel in the dark to make the job easier. I realize I may have had a lemon, and I will give liebherr credit in that they just kept sending service people even after the warranty ended. I suppose because its service life had such a detailed history from the day it arrived. I have thrown away my last batch of food. Today I bought an open box subzero at a discount price. I asked my appliance dealer if when they take the liebherr out of my house to deliver it to the US liebherr headquarters and leave it a their front door. In an effort to be positive, the blue star stove and the bosch dishwasher I bought have been dreams....See MoreMiele reliability and service
Comments (36)"I mean, do cookies look alike coming from different sheets?" Why I would not base a decision on a single factor for any oven. It depends on the functionality you need. I would not trade the functionality of a setting which lets me roast perfectly in the usual time without any preheating whatsoever. That's everything from potatoes I just roasted to Thanksgiving turkey which I start in a cold oven. Why do those functions not get the same value as the stupid cookie thing? Because the cookie thing is used for marketing and repeated so it becomes a standard when it should be only one criterion in a list that will be different for everyone. Last weekend, I made oven-steamed branzinos for 4. There were two whole fish in a roasting pan with white wine and herbs, covered with foil. In the old days, it would be essential to slit each fish down the center to get the top filets cooked through to the bone since the oven heat came from below. In my oven, I can use the "surround" setting which cooks from top and bottom at the same time. The fish were perfectly and evenly cooked through and beyond delicious. No cutting. I can bake 4 loaves of sourdough in succession with 2-3 minutes of oven recovery time. Granted a reasonably even oven overall, how long does it take for the other ovens to recover full heat at 450? And how important is that to the buyer? Important to me because I bake bread and pizza a lot. Not important to someone who doesn't. There are trade offs. I don't make cookies often and turning or switching trays is no big deal. If it is, and you don't mind the oven liner chipping, or you don't mind more limited functionality, then there are various choices. There are no right/wrong choices here. Even value is relative. And I could make a very good case that DD's Kenmore double oven, which is a bit smaller, has many of the same functions as other single-fan ovens with 0 porcelain issues and the best self-cleaning I've seen since my Thermadors in the 1970s. I made a mess in her oven with a high heat roasted chicken and was stunned at how well the self-clean worked, especially given all the self-clean horror stories here....See Moredbabrams
