Spreadsheet of your hostas?
Comments (24)This thread always strikes a powerful sour note with me. As a retired geek, I cannot more strongly suggest that folk use the more proper program for data manipulation, known as a 'database'. Yes, 'spreadsheets' have evolved to handle many 'database' aspects, but are really aimed at 'number crunching' and they do that better than 'databases'. I'll mention that data crunching and comparison and tracking is what databases are designed for, which is why when you go to any and almost all data websites, such as hostalibrary.org, the back end is a database. For reasons too complicated to enumerate here, there are many too easily fallen into pitfalls in spreadsheets that will 'munch' your data. Accidental use of sorts is the most common problem here, but again, it's difficult to explain briefly. This knowledge is gained by me from hard and expensively learned mistakes from my work as a geek before retirement. Yes, database ability is a little more difficult to attain, but eventually it will save you hours, days, even years (yes that happened to me) of lost or munged data. So please tell me you don't use your email program to file your pictures, get my point now? FWIW, hh...See MoreSanseveria growing contest!!!.... Read all about it!!!
Comments (150)Josh, I do have some Japanese Painted Ferns but what is shown is varagated Packasandra. Started with a few plants that take off from stem cuttings in the early spring. Now I have hundreds used as a border. Behind them Hosta Gold Standard and various common ones. Under a seedling Japanese maple tree. There is some mix-mash of wild ferns from our woods. Also a few jack'n the pulpit just for fun. Wait, in the first picture is a Japanese painted fern. You are right my friend....See MoreAdenium Grow-Out ( Sign In only)
Comments (113)I'm here and I got my seeds!!!!! I'm so excited. I'm in the middle of a little home reno so I've been busy. We just had hurricane impact windows and doors installed. The house looks so nice without those ugly metal hurricane shutters. I am too scared to plant these seeds until I get this mite problem under control. I have 6 grown adenium, most of which are under attack. Every leaf fell off and the new ones that come through are bright yellow and fall off. I have one plant with flowers only and NO leaves. It looks so weird. I have used neem oil and moved them in the shade but these suckers won't leave! Any suggestions? I have been doing a weekly-weakly dynagro fertilization. The trees look great, just bald. Also, 2 of my pots were infested with ants. It has been dry here and when I watered one of them I noticed hundreds of ants carrying eggs flowing out of the pot like lava. Disgusting. It's a constant battle here with bugs!!! I took one tree out and flushed out the rocks. It dropped what few leaves it had. The other one is still a luxury ant condominium. Having these beautiful plants in Florida is like having kids lol. So much work....See MoreLog for Grow-Out: Page 2
Comments (114)Bumping this thread - and showing one of my runts, the biggest. I have 4 in total (the 5th did not survive), seeds from UK Phil germinated around the 15th of November 2015. So they are 7 months old... The seedling has branched out from the top but I did not prune it. I suspect that the growth tip dried up 4-5 months ago. The seedling does not grow new leaves and have been dormant for two month or so, even under lights. I have been keeping it moist, though. It is no darling of mine (might change!). The nodes are not tight probably due to my excessive watering regime in an attempt to accelerate growth. I failed. ;-) And yes, it needs a bigger container......See MoreNicholas C.
