Need help with bedroom decorating

I am trying to come up with color and pattern ideas to decorate my bedroom. It is very brown due to all the woodwork. The only colors hubby prefers I don't incorporate are: green, yellow, purple. (Light shades/hues are ok)

Unfortunately, I am limited with furniture layout due to many built ins in the room. The furniture and mirror will stay where they are. The carpet is staying..... for now. I am open to painting the walls. I was originally thinking of possibly just painting the wall area above the bed for some contrast.

I apologize for the glare in the pics, but I had already taken down the curtains, and the sun is shining today! :-)

I have been scouring the Internet for ideas, but am interested in hearing ideas from anyone interested in sharing some!

I think a blue/gray scheme would play nicely against the wood.

Might be better if you posted this on home decor rather than conversations...it's more heavily trafficked.

It's an exceptionally unique bedroom. Since there's so much wood and the carpet seems to be brown as well, I'd go with a nice light color for your bedding. Light blue does go beautifully with brown. I have always found that getting my bedding first was the way to go. Then I pull a color or two from there for window treatments, art, pillows, wall color, etc. You need to lighten it up. You said your husband wants to stay away from yellow, but I just saw a beautiful bedding set that has light blue and yellow on a white background from which you could pull out the blues and it would be light and cheerful.

I also vote no to the plastic liner. hard to clean and wasteful to just replace them all the time. Nylon curtains can be thrown in the wash and bleached (it's easier to wash them routinely though, before the bottom hem gets moldy). I use this kind of hook which makes that chore super easy. I used to have two curtains doubled up on regular hooks and that worked just fine, btw. double sided hooks or double rods are not really necessary unless you just like the way it looks.

Hmmm....I guess I don't know where to find "home decor". When I click on home decorating, it takes me to conversations.....

If you are in Home Decorating Conversations, there's a gray bar beneath that says Related Forums: Home Decorating. Click that link and it will take you there.

Or click on Home Forums on the left under Gardenweb and it will take you to a list of topics under "The House". Select Home Decorating and it will open the main forum...conversations is a subsidiary forum for off topic conversations.

I don't see a blue/gray color scheme with the current carpeting, which looks to be yellow and orange. If you can remove the carpet, it would open up opportunities for other colors in the room.
