Where do you put all the toiletries and stuff??
Comments (6)Our bathroom is small (for a master) and since our vanity is along an exterior wall in Maine, we couldn't afford to give up insulation depth for a recessed medicine cabinet over the lavs. I was worried about where we'd put all the stuff, and planned open shelving for towels and baskets or smaller items. However, now that we've installed the cabinetry, I found I have LOADS of space and don't need the shelves. We designed a very sleek, simple vertical cabinet over the toilet, about 30" high by 6" deep by 16" wide. It holds feminine items and medicines and first aid stuff, and is only about 1/3 filled. Our vanity is sleek and up on legs, but we designed the sink installation to avoid interfering with the space at the top as much as possible, so we have four cavernous drawers to use. I got divider things from Ikea (soft and girly for me, square and hard for DH, since he didn't like mine!) and you can't believe how much stuff is in there. I put a plug on my side so I can keep a hair dryer in my top drawer. All of our towels are in one bottom drawer. And there's still loads of room! Also, our two closets are just outside the bathroom, so I figured if I have any overflow (like a big bulk package of toilet paper) it could be stashed there pretty easily....See MoreNew Samsung FL W&D - Bedding W&D Issue
Comments (21)My Asko dryer used to do this. I faulted it's "butterfly" dryer design. The dryer paddles alternated - one row was toward the back of the dryer, the next toward the front, etc. This is supposed to help kick the dryer contents back and forth to avoid a constant rolling action that would ball up sheets. Unfortunately, it didn't work at all. There was no solution except to get a bigger dryer. I don't have this issue with my Miele W4842, but I also dry king size sheets and duvets individually in order to avoid wrinkles and creasing. A reversing dryer is also very effective at preventing items from balling-up. Miele, Electrolux and perhaps others have a reversing tumble....See MorePowder D/W detergent corrodes inside of D/W?
Comments (12)My repair guy told me to stop using the gel packs because the packs don't dissolve enough and clog up the lines, etc. He said to use powder. And I've actually found that since I've gone back to powder that my dishes are cleaner-no residue in my dishwasher any more, and the sprayer arms don't clog up. I also quit using the gel packs in my washing machine, because the cold water wasn't always disintegrating them! Back to powder for me, but I sure loved the convenience of the gel packs. I think the issue with your machines racks is due to age, not the powder....See MoreSo much stuff, enough room, but where to put and organize?
Comments (6)In the meantime, I'll join in on the mental exercises of thinking things through! First question: Who will use that kitchenette/bar, and for what? Will it be a place that people get snacks and drinks while they're hanging out in the basement room? I would want that kitchenette to feel part of the enjoyable living space--so, I wouldn't necessarily want it shut away in the laundry room. So I'd put it in the corner of the room that people will spend time in. (but I'll also say--I would probably decline that fridge--it takes up a lot of space, and I personally wouldn't find it of enough value. If I really was in love with the idea of a kitchenette, I'd get a little bar fridge.)...See Morebpath
