Is this a stinkbug? (does not stink)
Comments (5)It's a stinkbug. And the white bands on the antennae indicate it's a brown marmorated stink bug. BMSB for short. The technical name Halyomorpha halys. In the eastern US, it's serious nuisance insect during fall and winter and a nasty plant pest during the growing season. They don't feed at this time of year; they just hang out in sheltered sites -- including your house -- until spring arrives. See info here: How to ID BMSB https://njaes.rutgers.edu/stinkbug/identify.asp Here is a link that might be useful: How to ID BMSB This post was edited by jean001a on Wed, Feb 12, 14 at 1:02...See MoreWhat's with these stink bugs??
Comments (4)Are they the Western Conifer Seed Bugs? We have had them for a few years - not huge numbers, but just a few here and there inside. Thankfully, they don't bite! -Caroline (from the Penn State Web Site below) "Even though this insect does not bite or sting, it causes concern among occupants of homes, offices, and laboratories when it comes indoors. Complaints from residents increase as the insect becomes more active and conspicuous on days in the fall and spring when the temperature is above freezing. In several areas in the northeastern United States, this insect has created great alarm when large numbers of adults suddenly invade houses looking for overwintering sites." Comments (19)I reviewed the architects documents...the primer is specified as PVA. The sheen of the paint is not specified, but the brand and type are specified. SW Harmony. The contract specifies PVA primer and a satin sheen but neither brand nor type are specified. The painters used SW products and the walls and ceilings were Promar 400 low luster. I realize the Promar 400 is an average grade paint. As I have noted before, I was building this house from 1400 miles away and only noticed the paint when we came out prior to our supposed completion date. I felt at the time that it was too late for me to object to the 400. As with other things, I believe my distance from the project enabled the builder to cut some corners. I did require that the architects selection document be made a part of the contract. I don't know if that helps or not in this situation. My assumption in doing that was to ensure that those things not picked up in the contract specifically didn't fall through the cracks. This helped when, for example, I noticed that two interior doors were incorrect. Now he did reorder them, but he reordered them with clear glass as opposed to obscure glass which was specified in the document. I agreed to accept them to keep things moving. This really has been a messed up process......See MoreWhy does it stink so bad and how to fix
Comments (20)I was wondering the same as above, if you had dripped a bit of water/juice or even your rinsing water someplace in your kitchen. Are you pretty certain the smell is not coming from your drain, if you deveined, washed over your sink? Shrimp juice gets really bad, really quickly. Cleaning clams can leave my kitchen a little funky the few times I have cleaned here instead of at the beach. I mix about 1/4 C bleach in a quart or so of water and pour that down the drain, followed several minutes later by a flush of water, takes care of it. I totally agree on the shrimp not keeping in your refrigerator that many days, while always admitting up front I am blessed with freshest seafood here this close to the ocean. I've taken it off the boat, and kept it three or 4 days. If that came from your grocery store, it was probably already older than that. A good way to keep fish, shellfish the longest possible time at its freshest (and I'm not talking about a week or longer here), is to put it in a colander and cover with ice, sit the colander in a shallow pan and put that in your refrigerator. Replenish the ice as needed. As the ice melts, it continuously bathes the shrimp, crab, fillet or whatever you have. That keeps the bacteria from staying on the fish, spoiling it and increasing its scent (which should be next to none) sooner....See Moremsrose
