The System Check Command File Is Missing...

Or is improperly formatted.

I have spent almost two days trying to fix my computer. I bought a new battery and it said it had to be calibrated. It didn't work the first time and when I tried to do it again, it said the system check command file is missing or improperly formatted. I also had a Trojan/malware problem that I believe I fixed with a cleaner.

Can someone tell me how to fix the System Check Command? I don't understand computers or most of the techie terms so please be gentle.

Is that an HP Laptop with windows 8.1 ?

Will the computer boot to windows or are you getting the "system Check Command File Is Missing Or is improperly formatted." at boot up.

or are you getting the error when running HP diagnostics ?

It says that in order for my new battery to work correctly, I need to calibrate it.

The instructions for that say to:

1> restart the computer and press the escape key when the power light comes on.

2.Select f2 system diags from the start up menu.

3. select Full Hard Disk Test.

That's when I get the message that the System Check command File is Missing Or Is improperly Formatted.

The first time I did it, it did not say that and seemed to work however my battery did not calibrate. That was probably something I didn't do right. When I tried to do it again, I got that message.

Marty dumping fuel through the venturi on CV twin is typically the float valve not seating. The floats are mostly not adjustable, but should be checked for saturation. You will need to know that the vent for the bowl is open. Other than that , some had an accelerator pump on the side- 3 small screws in the cover which will cause a rich condition. There are several variations of carbs on these and you will need to toss the model and spec on the googler and look up some parts. Click on the carburetor in the diagram to see the service parts used, or replace the carb complete.

yes apt get is still around but most people want a gui based way and not learn command line. And the fact that some of the distros are altered versions specially created for use on these little netbooks makes it more difficult to help because the altered distro may not be the same as the full distro etc. Using synaptic is a breeze, you just open the synaptic package manager which would be listed in your applications menu and then when it ask for root type that in and it opens synaptic just like in that picture then you can either search for the name of the item you want or go through the list looking for it, once you do find it, say you are looking for firefox, do search for firefox, it finds it and you see it listed in the list hilight it and select mark then apply and it will tell you that it will be installing that to your pc you click ok and it does it's thing and then says it completed successfully and you close that window and voila you now have firefox on your pc. That is how you install any type of program to linux. You do not do like you did in windows and search the web and find some program that you have no idea if it is safe or not and download an exe to your pc which you then execute and hope that it is not virus laden. The programs are already all loaded into the repository and have been checked so you know they are clean and safe, you find them using synaptic or some package manager and install them. It is so much easier than the windows way. You just have to unlearn windows. Windows to Linux: A Beginner's Guide that is a must have site, there are many others that I relied on heavily when I started but by far the best thing is to find a good related forum for your version and sign up. It really is not that steep a learning curve just like going to a Mac you have to learn a new os same with linux, once you learn it you realize it makes much more sense. does that asus eee use Gnome or KDE desktop? Well if you had success with Malwarebytes perhaps it is not necessary to run Superantispyware. If you would care to try then as you start the computer keep tapping the F8 button and a screen will appear with start up options. Select safe mode, everything will look totally different to the normal startup because only essential drivers have been allowed to start. My concern was the fact you mentioned AVG was not running properly. That is a good indicator of trouble. On reading the initial post a second time it appears you overcame that issue

I also wonder do you have a firewall and have you tried dropping your firewall and trying to get your pc to connect, it could be something changed in your settings and your firewall is blocking something. Also have you done all your windows updates for your pc? the references I have seen to the dll files you mentioned are all very very old and seem to have been fixed by windows updates, also most were involving Ie6 which version of IE do you have? The reason I ask about sp3 is that it has been found that people who did the sp3 update are now unable to get their updates to .net. There have been some work arounds for that issue. Article about that for anyone interested. XP Service Pack 3 blocks .NET security patches http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 and yet another question have you done all your java updates on that pc? and do you also have firefox browser? from what I have read those missing dll files should not be keeping you from connecting, they seem to be related to being able to click on links in webpages and having it take you to the appropriate pages. So I think you have 2 different problems, one the connect issue and 2 the dll problem. go to your event viewer Start> control panel> administrative tools> event viewer > there you will see 3 options in the left list double click each to open their logs look in each one to see if you have any red or yellow flags there, if you do you can hilight each one of those by clicking it then double click to open the info box on each item, look for any thing that says what is happening and what is causing it and any error codes.

Can you run the computer normally without the battery installed just using the ac adapter?

That sounds like a problem with that particular Diagnostics program on the computer, somethings wrong with it .

What windows version is installed ?

I want to run System file checker on it. I'll show you how but I need to know what windows version is installed.

Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)
To do that,
you open a command prompt copy and paste this command into the command prompt
---> sfc /scannow <-------

Follow directions here--> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

Let me know what system file checker says and if it says unable to repair some files.

"Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.Details are included in the CBS.log windir\logs\CBS\CBS.log.For example C:\windows\cbs\cbs.log. Not that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios"

Now using command prompt again copy this command below: using your mouse

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Now in the command prompt window, put the mouse in the black window, right click and choose paste, hit enter on keyboard.

Then run sfc / scannow again

I copied and pasted that in the same command prompt window that I already had open from the first sfc/scannow. It will not let me type in sfc/scannow again. I try to type and nothing happens. Should I open a new command prompt window?

Just wandering by...

If you copied & pasted zep's sfc / scannow there's an error in his post. It should be "sfc /scannow" [minus the quote marks]. There shouldn't be a space between the forward slash and scannow. Try it without that space and see if it helps.
