New (to me) Downy & Mrs. Meyer's Fabric Softener
Comments (13)@ clean_and_bright.....Can you believe P&G? I was "happyish" with non-concentrated Downy and could even get by using reg. Downy Ultra April Fresh mixed with Downy unscented. NOW, they have tweaked the "April Fresh" scent, so that there is almost no underlying April Fresh scent left. After drying it really just smells like old lady musty perfume that was somewhat washed off, but not really! MAD!! The Sun Blossom smells pretty good, diluted with unscented Downy. I am surprised...I actually prefer the Mrs.Meyer's Lemon Verbena!! Laundry is softer, smoother and the scent is lighter and fresher!!...See MoreNew round of Fabric Softeners! The hunt continues.
Comments (47)I don't pay much attention to the Gain, but lately noticed they have sample bottles of the Fresh Water , plus they have the big ones(softener too) on display. I will look better next time I go in there. My store too is new, 2 yrs old maybe 3 and it is one of the Dollar General Markets, which is bigger than regular DG. It is a grocery store really, one side all food etc, the other every thing else. Another thing with the Gain I have noticed, they have jugs of the Icy Fizz smell and it will say on the front For Cold Water. I have also seen the same scent without the For Cold Water on the bottle. Don't seem like I have seen that at Wal mart but again, I don't notice Gain much, smell chokes me fast. Jean, have you ever noticed the Cold Water version at your store?...See MoreFrontloader with Fabric Softener Damage
Comments (13)I was curious about the dispenser capacity so checked it. The designated Full level is 3 tablespoons but the compartment will hold 11 tablespoons to the top of the siphon tube which is under a cover. Dosage lines on laundry product caps are notoriously difficult to see. I checked the cap on the variety of Snuggle that I use. The instructions state to use Line 1 for a normal load, Line 2 for a large load or extra softness. Line 2 (which I can barely see aiming an LED flashlight into the cap) is 3 tablespoons, which is 1/3 of the cap. A full cap is 9 tablespoons, which the dispenser compartment will easily hold. I don't know any details about their laundry habits other than what I can infer from the machine's condition and her statement quoted above about softener use. I suppose I could ask but I imagine my sister's friend would find the line of questioning to be odd. :-) The residue in the dispenser housing was waxy, definitely softener scent. It didn't generate any suds when I washed the housing. The door boot, drum, outer tub, and remains of the drum support have the same strong scent. They apparently used liquid detergent. The dispenser compartment has a removable insert in place accordingly, although that may not be a meaningful clue. I doubt detergent, either liquid or powder, is a related factor. Underdosing of detergent is by-and-large more likely to cause residue issues than overdosing (except, of course, for excess suds, which in this case is unlikely to occur because of all the softener residue, LOL). Cold water surely is a factor. Takes some heat to melt the waxy softener residue along with sufficient detergent to hold it in suspension in the wash water to be flushed away....See MoreNew Method Fabric Softener and blast from the past Tide ;)
Comments (14)George & Mama.....Color Guard is BLUE now (the liquid itself) and Total Care was orange (the liquid). I smelled and opened the lid to Color Guard today, 5/13/16 @ Target. I think I hate the scent of Color Guard. Total Care never smelled great in the bottle, but it always smelled good after washing and drying. @Pat....I always used Total Care for our daily clothes...tees, shirts, shorts, socks, undies, PJs...It leaves everything so soft. I wash most clothing items at 120F (cold fill, heated to 120F). 3 Rinses. Total Care has been gone for a little while now, but there are bottles on Amazon and Mama saw it at Ollie's....See Moreaa62579
