Maisie Dobbs hits the road.........
Comments (4)I just finished reading the first Maisie Dobbs book and rather enjoyed it after all. I had read one of the later books a few years ago and did not much like it, but decided to give her another chance. I had heard a very positive review on the radio recently, and hear such positive reactions here on RP, so I thought I'd see what I was missing. Rosefolly...See MoreBookmarks Magazine
Comments (14)With all the enthusiasm here for Bookmarks, I had to give it another try since Pages is no longer being published. When I subscribed to both years ago, I liked Pages more. Maybe I've forgotten but it seems that Bookmarks has added some features that used to be in Pages. I always especially liked the last page of Pages that featured a year in books. This issue of Bookmarks has the same feature and I'm so happy to see it. For whatever reason, I love this issue of Bookmarks and will subscribe again. I have the same feeling that I used to have with Pages -- like a kid with the Sears Christmas catalog!...See MoreForgotten Bookmarks ....we must all see this one !
Comments (3)That sounds like a delightful book. I will look for it. My funniest bookmark story happened on vacation last summer. I like to use my train tickets from London because they are laminated and last a long time, are small, and make a souvenir that gives me pleasure every time I look at them. I was reading on an upper story lanai at my hotel in Hawaii last summer when a breeze caught the one I had taken out of my book and blew it on the wind toward the ocean that I could see in the distance. I have wondered if someone found it and thought it amazing, or if it enjoyed its further travels....See MoreIs it too hot to read in August?
Comments (171)I know what you mean yoyo. I usually pass on paperbacks and have one friend who shares my 'taste' in books so no difficulties there. I made the mistake recently of handing on a light, but well-written book to my s-in-l thinking it might amuse here. Vee "Maybe you'd like to read this ? I don't want it back so pass it on when you have finished with it." H "A book? For me? To read?" Looks suspicious. Vee " Well, I found it quite entertaining. I just thought you might enjoy it." H Taking book as though it is a consignment of drugs and she should have on her rubber gloves. "I don't know, err but um . . ." Vee, feeling very stupid as though she should have remembered H belongs to a sect that forbids the written-word or maybe never learnt to read " It doesn't matter, it was just an idea." H "Well OK . . . thanks. I don't normally read books." Vee, in amazement "Never read a book?" H. "No, although I did read one a few years ago which was quite good." Vee realising she has almost lost the plot "Oh, what was it called?" H. " I've no idea."...See Morewoodnymph2_gw
