I do no think curtains are appropriate in a bathroom, although it could depend on the space. I like drapes in some rooms, although I also know they can "harbor" dust/mites/allergens regardless of what you do. (When I walk through homes with curtains in the bathroom, it does gross me out a bit.) Because our window is behind the tub/hard to reach and we don't have a pretty view out the bathrooms, we got frosted window glass. There is pretty natural light that comes through constantly, but we have privacy.

The ballard shower curtain you describe would be gorgeous-- and elegant but so tailored and cold next to what you've described in your other rooms. I don't think the styles need to match necessarily but it sounds like a completely different personality to me-- as does the toile (though it would be lovely too). You've done some interesting and unexpected things in your other rooms-- it just seems natural that you'd do the same in the bathroom. I love black and light green together--if it were my bathroom, I'd use a leaf print to make a beautiful little oasis. You could go wild and tropical for one look.. or more subdued for a more serene environment. I tend towards the serene-- so I'd go for something like the PB overlapping leaves shower curtain with interesting artwork. But that's MY taste haha.. what "feels" right to YOU? It may be too "earthy" for your tastes but I have handcrafted tiles in my small half bath with a raised frog and turtle. But you could go so many directions with leaves-- black and white photographs like citymom did.. some kind of funky tribal or island decor. Whatever tickles your fancy. Side note - Natural bar soap works best - no chemicals, no dyes and you would have to not clean your shower for weeks before seeing any build up. As for materials - I say go for whatever is beautiful to you and maintain as that material requires. You can't blanket everything under the category of "natural stone" and get the same answers. Each stone has its own characteristics and maintenance needs. I had an apartment once that had the old glue up glossy plastic walls in the shower. The landlord let me gut the bathroom ( it really needed it ) with his material approval. I managed to get thicker glue up shower walls with a tile-look pattern and molded shelves. Fancy right?? Well those flat glossy glue up panels were so much easier to clean! Live and learn.. If you understand what your stone will need and look like over time and you are ok with what you have to do, then just get it and enjoy!
