last detail-help finish side wall beside backsp
Comments (10)Well, we have decided to do the full granite backsplash - we have paid for the slab and it is waiting to be cut (so too late for the tile - we had a hard time picking tile). I am now getting used to the the first drawing, but I am also leaning heavily to just ending the backsplash on the back wall with nothing at all on the side. I was so bent on doing something on the side because our original counter had a huge gap at that side between the side wall and the counter and that is why I wanted to cover it. Eventually, we found the same granite and lot number (Juparana Golden Beach)at another fabricator's place and our fabricator agreed to redo the entire counter on all sides since this new slab seemed to be a bit darker as compared to the original slab even though the lot numbers were the same. Anyway, he redid the counters, but I still have a gap between that side wall and the counter (albeit a lot smaller than before) which he siliconed and said that it is paintable so we can match it to the wall. Anyway, that is why I have wanted to do a side piece, but I now look at the side and think that I can live with it the way it is (with the siliconed gap). I am afraid of having a design on the side wall become too distracting/outdated etc., and I think that the granite on the back wall is enough. Thanks for your thoughts and opinions - they were very useful in helping me think things through properly....See MoreHelp with Finishing Kitchen Detail - Need Solutions!
Comments (6)That's what I would do too. But take the overhead cabinet to do it! It'll be a finicky job so make sure it's all measured and lined up and leveled so the new piece is straight. Btw, while you'r removing the upper cabinet, is there any way to make the doors line up with the panel and not the cabinet face instead or do you not have room? That may make it more flush since you have overlay doors it looks like....See MoreNeed design help around shower - how to tie in finish
Comments (5)The cement board fastened 8" requires all board edges to be reinforced with alkali resistant mesh and embedded in thinset. Now you can apply liquid or sheet membrane waterproofing. If sheet membranes are selected you can use it to substitute mesh tape. To simplify. You should be able to shower without any tile installed. The tile is only cosmetic. Which ever product is selected follow the manufacturers instructions. They all have a tech support line and you should use it. Your present contractor does not have the knowledge to be installing showers if he believes the cement board alone is waterproof. Red Guard, Laticrete hydraban are usually readily available liquid applied systems. I was typing and was not aware of Tundra's post....See Morepatio design: have plan, need details!
Comments (1)My vote is Sierra with charcoal soldier and fullnose. This may be TMI, our beloved outdoor hottub had a full height screen. We had neighbors, man liked to watch, woman didn't like man watching, we didn't like man watching. Allowed us privacy for parties, etc....See Morelocaleater
