Any Front Loaders with "add water" feature?
Comments (6)I slightly modified the fill amount in my Samsung. Using trial and error, I adjusted the pressure switch under the top cover (two phillips screws to remove that) about a turn and a 1/4 clockwise, IIRC. I only wanted a little extra water--not too much, or the clothes won't "lift" while being agitated and they won't get clean. Too much water in a FL is not a good idea, but my Sammy came from the factory with so little water in each wash that it was needing a tweak. Because my washer uses a little more water now, i no longer need to run the Pure Cycle to clean the drum every couple of weeks. Its always clean smelling and I havent run that cycle in so long I can't even remember when I ran it--I guess more than 6 months....See Morewhat is he detergent for front loader washer?
Comments (24)I use a TBSP in each load and it works great. It takes ground in soil out of my gardening cloths, even my gardening gloves which I do not bother to rinse. I put all my dirtiest cloths in one load and wash on the normal cycle, warm/cold, heavy soil. My white gardening gloves (who thought of that anyway) come out spotless. I used to have to rinse them with my old machine and they still came out grungy. Well, duh! I did not even think about the fact that I use a concentrated detergent, All Small and Mighty Free and Clear HE. Now that I do, I have no idea if a half cup is actually a lot or not. I have been using Small and Mighty formula since it first came out (not HE back then). It has been so long since I used a regular detergent I have no idea how much would be used. I will have to look at the supermarket. I may call Unilever just out of curiosity to see how much of their regular detergent 1 TBSP would equal. And they will probably send me coupons for asking - I love that!...See MoreAre all liquid HE detergents bad for front loaders?
Comments (0)So after hours of perusing this forum, I'm more confused than ever. Is there a current consensus on whether liquid detergents are to blame for buildup of slimy scum on the outer drum? Or is it only liquid when used with cold washes? Will regular use of a "sanitize" high temp load or a load with Oxy eliminate that build up? (I use the sanitize at least once a week with sheets and towels, so I suspect/hope I don't have that nasty buildup.) I've had a FL for about 2 years with absolutely no problems with odors. I've just decided I'd like to switch to a more eco-friendly laundry regime and want to find an alternative to TideHE---though other than the fact that it's a huge brand name petrochemical, I generally think TideHE works great for us. I'd love to find these results in a natural brand, preferably a powder because it would have less packaging and less fillers. So for powders, I had narrowed my choices to Persil and Charlies. I love the way powdered Persil smells, and I absolutely *want* to love it. Reminds me of my childhood detergent. I can see my mom folding our childhood laundry when I smell it. But it didn't seem to clean anything in my wash. Most of my kids jeans and tee shirts smelled and looked like they were still dirty after washing with Persil. So that's out. I know lots of people love Charlie's... my mom included. She just gave me a bag of it to try. But it doesn't seem to clean my clothes as well as the tide, and I tend to like a tiny bit of a scent to my clothes when they're done. I'm going to continue trying it, but I just don't yet feel like a convert. So I keep coming back to the liquid detergent options. I'm considering Method's HE Liquid and Seventh Generation Liquid HE. Both seem to have some sort of plant based softener, so I'm wondering if that's potentially going to gunk up the machine worse than something like a TideHE liquid. Or is that a non-issue if I'm using a sanitize mode once in a while and not over-dosing. Thanks, Kmama...See MoreNew LG HE top loader washer using too much water?
Comments (14)Considering that it's only my wife and I and we don't do that many washing loads, we're very satisfied so far that the LG will meet our needs and expectations (won't know how it holds up until later). With the different cycles available and the ability to modify them to a reasonable extent, we can always pretty much match water level to something that works well on any load we would wash. On the cycles that have a high default fill we will just add enough clothes to match. No more loads than we do, the water usage is not that important to us, and we prefer the choice of using a cycle (and/or the water plus selection) that will use enough water for great results, but use very little water when it's appropriate. On the water temps, we're perfectly satisfied as well. Machine cold (not tap cold which is about 62 deg right now) 80-82 deg is fine, well above detergent performance level. Warm around 102 deg tested after fill with clothes) is fine also, and having 120-124 deg hot water available on hot without using the heater (still haven't tested on sanitize or bright whites with heater available) seems unexpectedly good on an HE washer with a hot water heater setting of 135 deg. Don't know what the future holds, but everything considered, at this point we couldn't be more pleased with both washer and dryer (particularly after reading many HE experiences folks have had). It definitely pays to learn the 'ways of operation' of your particular machine. I'm not sure though, after observing a few wash cycles, our washer even knows what it's doing half the time... but it seems to work out well. Thanks... Quinn...See Moregeorgect
