Need help with centerpiece - or need an idea for a new one....
Comments (4)Looks like you've got a good start! I agree, something larger than the candle ring under it. Fabric, place mat, mirror, charger, silver platter.. something to 'anchor'. Have you thought of trying that cellophane stuff you put in gift bags to fill them out? its all strips and curly and fluffy.. I've seen the iridescent kind in water and its pretty nice, if you little votives down at the base to reflect light off of. You'd have to use a wider anchor for the whole thing if you used the votives and cello stuff. or find one of those submersible lights to drop in the bottom and shine up through the cellophane stuff, or use one of the lighted 'ice cubes' for drinks instead. You can still use the floating candle if you want to....See MoreLooking for basketball banquet centerpiece ideas
Comments (9)Are you doing this for boys or girls?? What's the team mascot - maybe that could be used in some way. I'm in charge of our boys basketball team banquet also - and being it's for boys - they don't care about the foo-foo. We are doing a couple of groupings of balloons for the head tables (coaches) and for the individual tables we're just using some of the shredded paper used for baskets in our school colors (red, white and black). I found some basketball "eggs" at Big Lots (8 for $1) and I'm going to fill those with candy and just have them nestled in the shredded paper. Also found some Hershey Kisses with black and red wrapping and will scatter those along with the red and white Starlight mints and Big Red packs of gum. I also found some Japanese lanterns at our Party America store in orange ($1.29 ea). I'm going to see what I can do with some black ribbon to make the circles to make them look like basketballs. Our school mascot is a Roughrider - so we do a lot of stuff with the cowboy theme. I had found an old pair of boots at the thrift store and spray painted them red and stenciled RR on the boot like a brand - and I think I'll use those for the balloon weights. Hope this helps a little....See MoreCenterpiece ideas , non-floral, for party
Comments (6)Not sure why she doesn't want flowers, if her idea is 'romantic Europe' - flowers would be central to much of that feel. I would check with the banquet hall about restrictions on candles - many places do not allow open flames on the tables due to fire code, so your candles must be contained in some way. Here's one idea. Use a glass pillar candle hurricane as in the link. glass hurrican Make a base for it by taking a terra cotta flower pot saucer that is large enough to hold the glass hurricane. Use a terra cotta flower pot, turned upside down, to act as the pedestal base. Usually the pot will be one size down from the saucer size. Paint them black, then dry brush with bronze and florentine gold craft paints, especially on the rims of the saucer and bottom rim of the flowerpot (now upside down as base). Use silicone adhesive to glue saucer to bottom of flower pot. Get some vellum from the craft store, likely in the scrapbooking department. Measure it so that you can create a piece of vellum that will wrap around the outside of the hurricane, covering it completely top to bottom. Search on your computer for graphics that represents each city, and print them in black on the vellum. Add the name of the city in a pretty font, perhaps some other words or names of places as well. Wrap this around the outside of the hurricane. WHen you place the pillar candle inside (white, unscented), the light will shine through the vellum and make a beautiful glow. You could add some gold curliques or paint right along the top and bottom edges of the vellum using a gold paint pen to make a more elegant finish. You can rent round mirrors ( or the banquet hall may have them) to put under the pedestal to reflect the light even more. Despite your daughter not wanting flowers, I would think about buying some of the pretty faux garland that is out there now for the holidays, perhaps with some white roses or magnolias in it and some frosted gold glitter, to encircle the base of the pedestal. And I agree with marie - your daughter seems very clear on what she does and doesn't want. She is old enough to understand a budget, and should also be willing to help do the work to make the party happen and save money where possible. I guess I should be glad that I have boys, and that those kinds of parties aren't done in our area! LOL Hope she has a wonderful birthday, and that the party is everything she has dreamed of all these years!...See MoreCenterpiece Ideas
Comments (19)I am sorry if anyone offended you. Please continue to ask for help here - people give great advice and have creative ideas! I think it would be cool if you wanted to create some real elegant centerpieces for your wedding - maybe use the flowers that you will use for your bouquets and put them in chrome urns or vases - The chrome would be a nod to the bikes and set off the flowers very nicely. I prefer simple centerpieces over ornate, but you can do what you think will compliment your theme best. I have seen people put round mirrors in the center of each table and have varying heights of flower arrangements - half tall, half short to add visual interest, and had votives and glass pebbles (like the ones they use in flower arrangements sometimes) around the base. I think if you want to stick to the chrome idea, you could find votives that are chrome and put votives in orange and black inside - I would maybe use one color per table, rather than mix the colors it might appear more busy. For your friend, I think that she would want something substantial that won't fall over if the wind picks up. Maybe some fall leave branches in copper or "antiqued" urns or vases. She can tuck flowers in with the branches, or just use the branches by themselves. I love fall leaves, and they will look very elegant. She could even spray paint the leaves and branches with metalic paint - like copper, gold, burnt orange, etc. - it would add a touch of drama and cover up any imprefections in the branches and leaves. I hope this is helpful - I am not the most creative type. I am sure that both weddings will be lovely! Good luck!...See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
