Bed risers

Since I got a new mattress and foundation I need to raise my bed frame up about 2". I saw some wood bed risers online at $25 for a set of four. My bed frame has nine legs. I made these from scraps of wood. Even after buying a 2.5" forstner wood bit I saved a lot of money over buying 3 sets of the ones I saw online.

You need to put those up on Etsy - hand crafted bed risers. Like socks said, "No kidding".

I'm not sure that you could find risers that are that short. Another solution could be to make a tuck in the platform of the bedskirt (the part that is under the mattress). I would make a 2" tuck down the center of the platform, and secure with safety pins. Depending on the style of skirt, you could pull it up closer to the headboard to shorten the foot end, or if that would interfere with the corners, you could safety pin up the foot end on the platform a bit also. Donna, if you're not finished with crawling around on the floor, I have some advice. Put some kind of cushioning under your knees. (Folded cardboard works well. If you use two pieces about as wide as your knees when you're on them and about 6" deep, you can move one ahead without getting up to reposition them - if that makes any sense.) It will help with your knees, but won't help you get up and down, unfortunately. bkay

A bedskirt may not fit over a platform bed frame. Have you tried it already? There are new 5"-7" foundations (not real box springs with springs) made to go with contemporary very thick mattresses. You could try layering one under your existing box spring and mattress, like the stack made by the Princess and the Pea.

Excellent job! I agree you can sell those. You would do good with woodworking projects. My husband loves to do wood projects.

I bet there is a center rail to support the bed Jim :)

Nicely done. I love making my own things, and it's a huge bonus it typically saves money!

The bed frame was originally part of a Somma brand water bed, hence the nine legs for extra support. I won't make them to sell. It's no fun if you do it for money.:)

I was researching these for my son's house to provide storage space. So many of the reviews said theirs broke. I bet yours will be nice and sturdy too.

Lovely craftsmanship. As for me, I don't need anything bigger at the bed corners and edges to stub my toes on. For only a two inch difference, I'd probably choose to deal with the lower bed.

Snidely, it might be the difference from a bedspread or dust ruffle laying on the floor, or clearing it, as well.

It was the bedspread. I have a lovely quilted bedspread that was dragging on the floor after getting the new mattress and foundation. I also enjoy making things and have plenty of time, being retired and widowed.

I needed more storage, and have an odd sized mattress, a super single. After much consideration I bought two TV cabinets, and put them back to back, with a little extra storage area between them, topped them with a sheet of plywood, and got a tall bed. :)

Susan, a super single is a water bed size. This shows the space between the cabinets.

Those risers are great! The ones you buy in the store are way too high. Just yesterday, I wanted to put a box under my bed and, I kid you not, it was no more than 1/4 inch too high! This is what's been happening to me, everything I want to put under it is just a tiny bit too high. I have to big high mattress so I think this frame is lower so the bed won't be too high...if memory serves me from the sales pitch several years back.

I LOVE the idea of the two TV stands! What a neat idea for extra space! CLEVER!
