What do you think of these option for tiles, vanity matching?

Hello,

We are picking fixtures and tiles for a new master bathroom.

Our other bathroom has a stand alone vanity with polished carrara marble top and we have honed carrara on the floors. The shower/tun surround is all white subway tile.

For new master bathroom downstairs, I was thinking didn't want also marble with marble, although my wife likes it.

So, we are thinking, this vanity with black granite top.

it's really a cool white, although looks grayish below

ps: the empty space on the left on floorplan will go the matching stand alone linen closet

also white

tub/shower surround will be 3x6 artic white subway tile

and for the floor tiles we are thinking Dal Tile Frabrique Linen Blanc - maybe in 12x24

but probably with lighter grout than the pic below

I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Not sure wall colors? Suggestions?

I looked at a tile like this during my search and the flooring lady said to take the sample home and walk on it...wet it, walk barefoot, and just see how it looks...I had this tile and a polished tile. This particular tile w/my bathroom window and lighting showed every single spot, footprint, etc. I went w/a glazed porcelain instead...it doesn't show anything. I would advise you to get a sample of the tile if you're not familiar w/it and do what I did and see if it works for you.

I agree with tsth. Also, double check that the polished black won't show water spots constantly. It looks like it is a true black finish with no variation. I suspect you might end up with every little water spot showing on your sink. I think all the colors look pretty together though! What if you did a grey but this time in a more linear stone like...

Hi beverly27, thanks, oh I like the accenting tile on the bench and the floor, we just demo'd the shower door and realize we have two lights in the bathroom and a window which makes it very light, so now we are thinking of a darker tile as a choice, but not sure if we should put the same tile on floor as the shower. we plan on an expresso black vanity with a white sink, the bathroom is so small that the vanity can only be 24 inches in width. will post photos in a new thread as well.

numbersjunkie, my vanity is 94" long with dual sinks. I decided to put cabinet "towers" on each end of the vanity, 14"w x14"d, from counter height to ceiling, to store items that would have been placed in the medicine cabinets. I will have a large flat mirror that spans the wall above the sinks. A "crown" will extend over the mirror, between the two towers, and will hold 3 recessed can lights. Another option would have been to have a tower in the center of the vanity, between the two sinks, but I did not like the idea of breaking up the space into "separate" compartments. I can add side lights to the towers on the sides of the vanity, but don't currently have plans to do that because I have a separate makeup bar, opposite the sink area. The makeup bar mimics the design of the vanity but has no sink, is at table height, 80" long, and 18" depth (so I'm sitting closer to the mirror than I would be at the sinks). My first design of the makeup counter was to have a built-in 3-way mirror; that is, one flat mirror, with side mirrors at 45 degree angle. But this meant no side lights, or attaching side lights to the angled side mirrors. So, I sacrificed the 3-way mirror to allow for side lights attached to the towers on the sides of the makeup vanity, in addition to the recessed cans above the mirror. I have not yet shopped for the side lights at the makeup counter.

I could just extend the counter, but I wanted a pony wall or something for some definition. And a wall makes no sense as we mocked it up and it locked me in. So it was my brilliant idea to make a pantry ;) And the pantry will only be as deep as the shallowist part to the right of the vanity. 16". So will not stick out. I can envision it. In my mind it works. In the real world...I guess we'll see! As far as function, there is room. The two faucets will not be perfect as it's only a 36 " sink. We kind of mocked it up and while we rarely get ready at the same time, our issues are faucet, outlet and towel. He reaches over for my towel. I reach over for the outlet. We use the sink occasionally together. Mostly on a Sunday or something. We'll have them about 6-9 inches in from the outside. Sigh. I am listening to all you are saying. And I get it. It's such a stupid space. He starts in about a month. Hopefully all will be ready by then. Fingers crossed. Thank you for the help mayflowers and helping me to think it all through.

Mayflowers-I LOVE the powder room. I really love the color of it also. I will definitely consider this for one of the smaller guest bathrooms. I just wonder if the white tile over the large a space of the bathroom may be too busy with all the grout. I love that vertical tile, but I wonder if horizontal would be better since the bathroom wall is 8 feet wide? It's just such a large wall. Oak town- I would definitely consider the slab terrazzo. I need to see the sample before I make my mind up. Ann Sacks is sending a honed sample. The pictures on their website really look busy too me, but they say the honed will look better. Otherwise, I will use a matte white tile for the floor. Pipdog, thanks that is a beautiful bath! I think if I do a plain tile, I would just go with the heath. I like it because it has some variation in size. Here is what I have so far picked out: waterworks flyte studio faucets, tub and shower fixtures in chrome: Bath tub, matte white, solid surface (the pic is of a light grey one): Walnut cabs, hopefully in this color: White caesarstone countertop (but I'm open to changing to fake marble), waterworks undermount sinks, mirrors suspended from ceiling. Maybe these lights over vanity: This is the tile and flooring we had picked out previously: crease heath tile, white porcelanosa floor, and white caesarstone. The problem is the heath dimensional tile is 3-4 mos. out, or it was last time I spoke with them. Bathroom plan (the red marks floor to ceiling windows):

We have black granite in the kitchen. Love it, would use it again in heartbeat. But, be aware, if you have hard(er) water, any drips or puddles will leave water stains if left to dry on the surface, and they can be noticeable on black granite. I buff them out using gentle steel wool if/when they occur. In a bathroom, there is likely to be more splashing around the sink, more often, so you'll want to stay in top of wiping the granite after using the sink. I'm not saying you shouldn't use it, just something to be aware of.

I have that very linen tower and love it.

As far as floor tile I also like this Daltile line Kimona Silk and think it would work. Not sure about the available colors though.

Hi all, thanks for feedback. As far as bringing tiles home, trying at home, the whole thing is under construction. There are no frames yet, but we need to decide quickly and put an order in.

I did not know about issue with water stains on granite. They are permanent stains? Is it like etching marks we get on Marble, but not from water? How bad is it?

On marble there are spots from water, but not permanent, while on my marble floor we have etch marks (white) probably from liquids that were dropped. It's possible the housekeeper didn't use the natural product I have given her to us.
