Opinions Please:What do you think of a black floor in a bathroom?
Comments (7)I have a dark kitchen floor (it's Amtico vinyl "wood" planks in Priory Oak (really gorgeous, hard to believe it's not real wood), and it does show light colored debris, there's no where for it to hide. But let me tell you, with 7 kids immaculate floors are not a priority! That being said, this is a girls bathroom and there will be a lot of dusty things flying about. Yesterday I spent about an hour on the Armstrong website's "Design a Room" program and put different floors in different bathroom settings, and you could even change the cabinet and wall colors, just to get an overall idea of the effect of various colors. I was very surprised that a lovely, subtle checkerboard light gray/medium gray floor looked absolutely blah with the colors I had picked. However, a black and white checkerboard really popped. I love the checkerboard look, wanted to put it into my kitchen but I was afraid to. I only have a sunroom left, I can checkerboard that one if I don't do the girls bathroon (so this isn't my last chance). A black floor also looked great. The Flexitec flooring is already set at an angle, but the fake grout has a beige cast to it... here is the link to the Armstrong black "stone" floor. The grout lines are thinner, so there isn't a texture to the floor. That could be a good thing? I loved the black penny tile floor, it is a stunning effect. And I bet they have to work to keep it looking so fabulous. I'm now so torn about the granite-vinyl dichotomy. I hae to keep reminding myself that real tile is more of a maintenance issue in my house due to the constant shifting of my foundation. We have wall/ceilling cracks everywhere for a few months, then they disappear, then we have a huge storm, and the cracks return. But grout damage doesn't go away and gets worse over time. I guess it's a part of living in Texas. And hello Monicakm! Thank you for all of your replies so far, they've got me thinking. I'm heading back to the flooring store this morning to pick up more samples. Have a great day! Here is a link that might be useful: Amalfi Black...See MoreLatest bathroom design...what do you think?
Comments (9)I like the 1st & 2nd designs, but I very much do not like the little closet between the tub and toilet areas. It feels awkward. Is it intended as a linen closet? I'd rather tuck it in where you have the towel racks marked on the 2nd design and put your towel racks on the back wall by the tub. Overall, I like the 1st design best, with the separate sink areas, if you can solve that storage problem, but whether that works better than a long double sink really is personal preference and how you and your spouse get ready in the mornings/use the space - My DH & I have difference schedules, so I don't have to think about how to maneuver around each other in the morning (which is good because before I've had my tea - this is a very dangerous time! ;-) ) One idea I have for using design 1 and including a linen space is to put it on the wall by your toilet room door - so inset the toilet room another foot, so you can put a cabinet on that wall - make the doorway a little deeper to the toilet room (hope that makes sense) - the storage wouldn't be 5ft wide, maybe 2.5 or 3ft, but it wouldn't awkwardly overlap the tub. Another thought - shorten the sink across from the shower to 4ft, and put the linen storage 90 degrees on the wall into the closet. (Or turn the island into a linen cabinet) My 2 cents! Hope it helps! Hunzi This post was edited by hunzi on Mon, Mar 31, 14 at 11:53...See MoreBathroom Tile, what do you think of accent tile
Comments (13)Hi beverly27, thanks, oh I like the accenting tile on the bench and the floor, we just demo'd the shower door and realize we have two lights in the bathroom and a window which makes it very light, so now we are thinking of a darker tile as a choice, but not sure if we should put the same tile on floor as the shower. we plan on an expresso black vanity with a white sink, the bathroom is so small that the vanity can only be 24 inches in width. will post photos in a new thread as well....See MoreBathroom Is almost done, what do you think?
Comments (16)Nice job! Your bathroom appears to be similar in size to our MB. We installed a small towel bar between the vanity and the toilet (but higher on the wall). Had no other option really. We have a window on the wall opposite the toilet, and an in-swinging bathroom door which covers 1/2 of that wall when the door is open. FWIW, many hotels have those combo train rack/towel bars hanging directly over the toilets, so I wouldn't think hanging your towel(s) between the sink/vanity and toilet would be much different....See More- 7 years ago
