since it isnt a huge space my personal pref is for a uniform color look and let everything at wall level pop. We have 15" charcoal dark gray-black floor tiles in a small 5.5' x 6' full bathroom (walls are travatine beige with white). Love the dark floor because white, red (for us, perhaps Not with pink!), and black bath mats and other accessories work well. am concerned that if you are springing bucks for a granite counter that vinyl flooring is going to make the whole picture feel odd. We went with oversized floor tiles because they werent granite, marble or any expensive stone product, but manufactured as ceramic tiles are (read: more affordable). Now, these have no shine and no slick, they are not high polished and that also adds to their charm. Sorry to say but this floor went in in 1998 and i no longer have the tile manufacturer.

I certainly get what you mean about the vinyl and granite. But I actually prefer vinyl. We have a concrete slab foundation which moves constantly, in spite of $$$$ foundation work over the years. So we compromise on flooring. And vinyl is so easy to take care of and when something drops on it, it doesn't necessarily break.

Amtico vinyl tiles are more upscale, but they are sold in 27 sq/ ft. boxes, which means that I need to buy four boxes (two each of white and of black) to cover my 60 sq. ft. bathroom.

But it's interesting about the black floor making everything pop.... The flexitech flooring is a deep, cozy charcoal gray. Check out this link, it's called Oxford. If you have a minute to reply, let me know what you think. Thank you!

They are very pretty for sure, but lots of dusting. I have a black granite floor in my powder room.

The black would add drama to the room and look great for about an hour after you've ran a dust mop over it :o
Bathrooms are the dustiest rooms in the house. You have t-paper, tissues, body and face powders, other powdery type makeup, and linens. I keep a swiffer dust mop in my bathroom closet and go over the floor 2-3 times a week. I have travertine-look porcelain that shows very little! How about a white/gray marble looking vinyl?

I have a dark kitchen floor (it's Amtico vinyl "wood" planks in Priory Oak (really gorgeous, hard to believe it's not real wood), and it does show light colored debris, there's no where for it to hide. But let me tell you, with 7 kids immaculate floors are not a priority!

That being said, this is a girls bathroom and there will be a lot of dusty things flying about. Yesterday I spent about an hour on the Armstrong website's "Design a Room" program and put different floors in different bathroom settings, and you could even change the cabinet and wall colors, just to get an overall idea of the effect of various colors. I was very surprised that a lovely, subtle checkerboard light gray/medium gray floor looked absolutely blah with the colors I had picked. However, a black and white checkerboard really popped. I love the checkerboard look, wanted to put it into my kitchen but I was afraid to. I only have a sunroom left, I can checkerboard that one if I don't do the girls bathroon (so this isn't my last chance). A black floor also looked great. The Flexitec flooring is already set at an angle, but the fake grout has a beige cast to it... here is the link to the Armstrong black "stone" floor. The grout lines are thinner, so there isn't a texture to the floor. That could be a good thing? I loved the black penny tile floor, it is a stunning effect. And I bet they have to work to keep it looking so fabulous.

I'm now so torn about the granite-vinyl dichotomy. I hae to keep reminding myself that real tile is more of a maintenance issue in my house due to the constant shifting of my foundation. We have wall/ceilling cracks everywhere for a few months, then they disappear, then we have a huge storm, and the cracks return. But grout damage doesn't go away and gets worse over time. I guess it's a part of living in Texas. And hello Monicakm!

The charcoal/black uniform colors do look good with your color scheme. However, I am a fan of the black and white checkerboard (even though I've never managed to find a way to put in in my old house). I think it would add an element of fun/cheer to a girls bath and also be a bit more forgiving in the "showing dust" department. I think I might go for the checkerboard!
