Adding neighbor's refuse into my pile?
Comments (6)These are all fantastic responses. Thank you. At first when it was suggested I make a second pile, I thought, I don't have room! But then I thought, you know, I've got a big bed out back with a lot of dahlias that I pull up for winter, and I might just make a separate pile out there. Then I could spread it next spring right where it's at, along with showing her what her trash became. I know she's been intrigued by my pile more than once because she's seen the steam coming out during winter and came over and looked at it. The good news is that practically every project outside I do, they later copy it. It's kind of funny/odd, but this might just do the trick. If I make a special pile just from her stuff, then show her what I get next spring, it might just entice them into another copy. I love the idea! If I did another pile out on that bed, could I do it without constructing a bin? I know you can, but I'm concerned about stuff blowing away...how do you prevent that, or is it not a problem? I actually haven't used any insecticidal soap myself, but would be willing to buy a bottle and "share" with her. That way I could give it a try, plus hopefully point her our way. I'm just imagining her face when I tell her about the mantises...it's not going to be good. She has very sour faces when I tell her of various projects. (She's about 70) You should have seen her when I told her I was putting up some lattice pieces (12 feet of it...turned out pretty) along one edge of the garden to give my climbing veggies something to climb. The truth was it was twofold: 1. To screen out some of their junky backyard and to give me some privacy when working in my garden (because she's now caring for five great-grandchildren, ages 1 to 5 and they are enchanted with me) 2. To act as a sort of barrier to her chemical garden, which they planted just across the property line from mine. Mine is on the edge of the line as well, so they're just about six feet away. When I told her of the upcoming project, she gave me her famous sour look and said "Why would you do that? Just buy tomato cages. Those work fine." Comments (29)I started to browse through this website forum since I needed to gather data on the issue of noise on condo complexes and hear what the current and/or past tenants of condos) have to say about their actual experience when living in a condo. Although I found many comments to be appropriate and suitable for the subject matter that written/posted by Vendora, I found quite a few commenters posts simply to be offensive and inappropriate such as the one posted by Mike_Pam, chinacat_sunflower, GammyT, and so on! Just simply look and listen carefully to their tones and motives that they have written behind their comments. So, is it really true that their intent is good, pure, and positive or rather is the oppositemeaning trying to take control and show pride of themselves or their egos to others whether they realized it or not? For example, how is it that Vendora was making a poor choice in moving into the condo complex when she obviously did not foresee nor knew in advance that there would be such horrific noise issue inside her condo unit right after she moved into her condo unit as what chinacat_sunflower clearly and inaccurately stated? How is it that Mike_Pam trying to help the nature of the issue when he obviously distorted his true intention in the forum as if he was giving the right and appropriate advice to Vendora when what he said and posted on his comment clearly is an insult and mental assault not only to Vendora, but to the nature of the subject matter and to the forum as a whole? Then, the next commenter (GammyT) after Mike_Pam posted his comment even aggravated the assault to Vendora and reminding that she ought not complain about the people above her and that is nothing she could do, etc.! As you all can see and understand, these commenters obviously get the kick out in deliberately saying untrue and destructive things to people, especially to the subjects (i.e. Vendora and other similar condo tenants) who are undergoing the torments of noise issue from neighborsto even make the nightmares to be much worse and more intense than ever before! It is one thing to give advicemeaning the right and appropriate advice; but it is another to insult, assault, and annoy others (i.e. Vendora) simply because that commenter wants to show off his or her ego and would say and do anything to put others down and make others look bad when these showoff people are the ones who needed help and needed to take a good look at themselves and to cleanse their unhealthy self-esteem and self-image once and for all! In addition, simply because a person raised an issue on certain subject matters; it never meant that this person is asking nor looking for advice nor meant that anyone could say anything and do anything to inflict unnecessary and additional pain to this person as the way some commenters had done to Vendora! This is called maturity, human respect for your fellow human beings and for yourself! Sincerely, Newlifestar...See MoreMortgage company still pushing bad loans
Comments (13)I should have explained my comparison of 9/11 to these predatory lenders. I was speaking in strict economic terms--not loss of life. You remember how 9/11 hurt the economy. Bin Ladin had said,at that time, that their desire was to cripple the United States monetarily since he knew he couldn't do it militarily. So after this crisis, then corporate America cooked the books on their businesses. That sent the economy down. We were just recovering from THAT when the banks started subprime mortgages. What were they thinking? Didn't they remember the lesson of Japan doing the same thing during their high-flying economy of the 80's? They had so much money flying around that they felt they could float all the riskier loans because they felt there was no end to the economic boom. We were just starting to recover from the book-cooking schemes when the subprime loans started appearing. ALL these people just seem like terrorists to me because they are attacking us and the economy for their own self-serving purposes. An analysis of how this got to be so prevalent in the lending business was done on Nightly Business Report. One lender followed another because they knew if they didn't, they wouldn't make any loans. Even the mono-line insurers followed!!!!! You turn your computer on and the computer terrorists attack you with spyware. Everywhere we turn today the only purpose we serve, to this evil segment of society, is our pockets. Ole Joyful sure has it correct in what he said. He was very careful in choosing his words so as to not offend. He should have just said it like it really is. This country is losing its specialness in the world because it has replaced its value system with the value of money alone, and above all. Very sad. There is nothing wrong in MAKING money. But it does matter HOW you make it. And scamming people is not MAKING money---it is only GETTING money. Thru MAKING money, you provide value and service to people. You make the world a better place. In GETTING money, you are little better than a drug dealer. All business people need a strict course in ethics, for they know not what they do....See MoreMy neighbor from h*** cost me ANOTHER contract
Comments (81)I was perusing my kane county illinois codes and I came across this and thought of this post. Maybe your area has a similar ordinance you can trump up to solve your problems: Codes: (8) a. Notwithstanding any other provision of this code, to operate or permit operation of any sound amplification system in a vehicle or on property, or to perform lawn mowing or utilize power or nonpower tools, or to operate off road vehicles, including, but not limited to, off highway motorcycles, minibikes, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), snowmobiles or other like or similar vehicles, on private property where the noise from such vehicle or activity is such as to unreasonably disturb, injure or endanger the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of reasonable persons of ordinary sensitivity; and when after written or verbal warning from law enforcement personnel the owner or operator fails to cease and desist from such operation or activity. The terms "motorcycles", "off road motorcycles", and "all-terrain vehicles" shall have the same meaning as in the Illinois motor vehicle code. "Snowmobile" shall have the same meaning as in the snowmobile registration and safety act. b. To make, continue, create or cause to be made or continued any loud or raucous noise. c. To make, continue, create or cause to be made or continued any noise which is harsh, prolonged, unnatural, or unusual in time or place as to occasion unreasonable discomfort to any persons within the neighborhood from which the noise emanates or as to unreasonably interfere with the peace and comfort of neighbors or their guests or operators or customers in places of business, or as to detrimentally or adversely affect such residences or places of business. d. Factors for determining whether a sound is unreasonably loud or raucous may include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. The proximity of the sound to sleeping facilities, whether residential or commercial; 2. The land use, nature and zoning of the area from which the sound emanates and the area where it is received or perceived; 3. The time of day the sound occurs; 4. The duration of the sound; 5. Whether the sound is recurrent, intermittent, or constant; 6. Any violation of section 12-602 of the Illinois motor vehicle code; 7. Removal or modification of adequate sound suppression equipment as set forth in section 4-1(E) of the snowmobile registration and safety act....See Morenicole___
