My Pothos is so weird
Comments (8)Actually the left half of the plant has started to very faintly turn more green - only half of the plant is directly in front of the East window. I moved it so it is now completely in front of it. How does that work, say a Marble Queen (or any variegated plant really) turns all green because of bad light. It then is moved permanently in front of a window with the right amount of light. Does the verigation come back? I'm not sure how that works....See More24 legged creature, what is this?
Comments (11)This is not Scutigera coleoptrata. I have caught this arthropod (not insect) myself in Phuket. To see an amazing high quality picture of Scutigera coleoptrata go to http://www.webiocosm.com/webiocosmzoo/arthropoda/myriapoda/chilopoda/scutigeromorpha/scutigeridae/scutigera/scutigeracoleoptratafull.htm Clearly they are related but not that closely, I expect they are in different genera. Comments (13)Our 9 yo, 4th grade dd's transition to the new house has been a bit of a struggle and it has caught us off guard. A little background: we moved from a 1000sf house in the boonies of Vermont to a 900 sf half assed winterized camp in the boonies of NY 3 years ago, when DD was in the first month of 1st grade. She missed one friend (who was not a neighbor, so she only saw her at school or occasionally on weekends), but seemed to do well. Last fall we tore down the camp and built a house, which we moved into in late July. During the winter we lived in another 900ish sf rental about 1/2 mile up the road, so we were at the site daily. She adapted seamlessly to the new school, camp we tore down and the rental house, which is why we were so surprised at what happened when we moved into the new house. Although she loves showing off her room to guests and being in there with us, she dreads being upstairs alone and for the first time ever, insists on having the nightlight in her room on all night. She keeps asking if we have ghosts in the house (sigh). We think part of it is that we now have a 2 story house, and she gets put to bed then we go downstairs, whereas we used to be just outside her door. We also more than doubled the size of our house to 2100sf, and I think the size of the house and the fact that she can't always see and hear us are factors. It does seem to be getting better, but it's been a little frustrating with the frequent "What was that?! It's a ghost!" exclaminations when, say, an acorn falls on the roof when we're tucking her in. We're hoping that with the advent of shorter days that she'll get used to being in her room when it's dark outside, we'll see. She spent the summer immersed in Harry Potter and Golden Compass books and that I think the content, i.e. magic et al, has stimulated her already-plenty-active imagination. sandyponder...See MoreStupid DH, now my bedroom is orange!
Comments (40)While I like red and I also like orange, I admit to finding that room (on my monitor) extremely bright. I guess because it is a bedroom. I really love the idea of the glaze over the color. I just did that to my laundry room that was brighter than a school bus yellow (ooops!). The glaze really toned it down, and now I like it. It's not a perfect color for my cabinets that will be coming, so the color may eventually change, but at least for now it is tolerable (and my original golden/mustard just was NOT!). LOL! I can definitely see that color left in it's current state, and used on an accent wall. With dark furnishings and maybe some greenery, that could be a very gorgeous "designer" space. If you did the "accent" on the wall where your headboard will rest, you'd never see the color at night when in your bed and supposed to be resting. And of course if you needed to kick up the passion, you and dh could just crank your necks around and glance at that bright wall. :o) LOL! Congratulations on your new cabinetry arriving. Happy for you that it sounds like you are on the home stretch!! ;o)...See MoreIdaClaire
