Name This Animal

24 legged creature, what is this?

Does anyone knows what kind of insect this is?

Or have I discovered a new species in our new bathroom in Phuket Thailand??

Please let me know. I even have filmfootage if needed.

These pictures where taken with the macrolens of my camera. It has long touchy tentakels at the front and at the back and is about 5 centimeters long. It moves in waves, very very weird. It did make me think of a cockroach but it could be something completely different.

That's something I miss about living in a warmer climate. I didn't have iguanas, but the little chameleons and tree frogs were everywhere and they're just adorable. Thank you! Yes it probably will have food as there are some insects around. I've googled him now and are happy with him as it eats cockroaches!!!!Every enemy of a roach is my best friend!I hate those with a passion and think the centipede is rather , wonderfull and beautifull!!! Althought it was in the outside bathroom in the garden, and I now am contemplating trapping it and bringing it into the house to eat cockroaches.But as I can read on the net that might not be a good idea too as many people seem to be very unhappy with them in the house.

It's indeed a Harvestman, or as we call them here in the South, a "Daddy Long-Legs". They are arachnids, but are NOT spiders, and are completely harmless, even beneficial because many species eat mold and mildew.

Yes, they are VERY wierd looking. I remember when I saw my very first one (of thousands)! It was the day after we had moved to S. Carolina; I saw a mole cricket, a huge black widow spider on the back of the house, and a large snake of some sort climbing a Long Leaf Pine in the backyard all in one morning. Yep, there were a LOT of firsts in S.C., I stayed for much of my adult life in spite of that first scary day. Those were the days before computers.....no Googe to look up that creepy looking little thing.

I thought it possible that if on one forum one gets no satisfying respons that maybe one would have more luck on another forum, in surge of a more satisfying answer then.... House Centipede.

No worries :) Scutigera coleoptrata is most common, spead throughout the world. Yours may be a new subspecies or just a color variation. Limited info and pics on these guys.

Ugh. Had one of those run across my face the first night in a new home.

Now I'll dream about the darn thing again.

I think it is a cement centipede. I use to see them in the basement as a kid and it gave me the hebe gebes!!!!

This is not Scutigera coleoptrata. I have caught this arthropod (not insect) myself in Phuket.

Clearly they are related but not that closely, I expect they are in different genera.

I'd lean more towards they're exactly the same in both pics. Presumptuous to say muck's two pics are not close when they're take from front high with indoor lighting as opposed to directly overhead with a flash.

symphylan. but i urge you to check it back with the person who know it better than anyone else. tq
