Monkey Puzzle Tree seedlings
Comments (7)Howdy, I still have these - not for seeds though - unless if they are rare seeds. Nothing has sparked my interest yet. Adguy, they would not branch yet - they are slow to branch, unless if you snip the top off - which I don't advise anyway, at this young and tender age. Mine never brown - I would take them out of the direct sun, or at least move it a little further away so that it's bright light, but not direct. With the longer days now, they may be getting more than 2 hours now. The greenhouse sounds like a great idea - as long as it is heated. Keep me posted!...See MoreDoes anyone else have Monkey Puzzle Trees
Comments (124)The most recently posted Long Island street view is from 2012! No proof they are still there after the 2 polar vortex winters. And the other recent winter that was very cold in New England but not as much down here. (2016 IIRC: well below 0F on Martha's Vineyard. Have no idea how LI fared) They often look out of place in typical residential settings but I think those twin Seattle trees suit the house and are well taken care of so I give them a pass! Good catch GG. I am actually wondering if the NW DC, Bethesda, and Baltimore trees survived this horrid summer...by far the most humid I can remember. We barely had any comfortable dewpoints throughout September, not until the last few days. USUALLY cold fronts start pushing in some crisp weather by the 2nd week of Sept. It was a constant steambath since May. And yes it is humid compared to the PNW, but constant dewpoints 70F or above are not normal at least up here. There's a reason you see at least a few old ironclad rhodies in the DC/Baltimore area, but none in the deep south. And other than the late June/early July drought/heatwave - just long enough to be a nuisance - incredible rainy spells, one after another. I'm lucky to have only lost a couple important rhodies to root rot. OTOH it was nice to not worry about watering the 6 or so new planted camellias in my garden. They are so thirsty in the first year!...See MoreWANTED: monkey puzzle tree

Comments (2)I was at Yamina rare plants last week on my annual pilgrimmige and spend up but didn't see any in their conifers selling section. You could ring Peter Teece who runs Yaminas production section to see if he has any seedlings in the pipeline for eventual retail sale.Very friendly and helpful (phone 03 9752 0035).I did see a 30 foot specimen in a private garden in the area(I think it was in the Silvan area from memory)although there wasn't any cones on the tree. They really are a wierd looking conifer. There is place you may be able to obtain seed.Try H G Kershaw seeds,P.O.Box 2057,Bathurst N.S.W 2795 ph 02 6331 7136 Fax 02 6331 7175 or Email orders@kershawseeds.com.au.They did have an online catalogue with quite a few hard to get conifer seeds but I couldn't access it at the time of writing. They also are able to import seeds from overseas (legally)into Australia so if they haven't got any they may be able to get some for you. Good luck with your search, C.N....See MoreUser
