Comments (11)II grow three varieties. The quadricolor, the A. univittata and a variety that is often called a lechugia but really it is not. Itis just the much larger variety of lophantha/univittata. The lechugia is actually very distinct from lophantha if you see a "pure" variety. Googling it brings up so many varied examples , most are lophanthas or mostly lophanthas. I am very confused by this family of agaves. I live where both exst in the wild and they share traits promiscuously ..Lechuguia's leaf is much narrower. It has dark dashes on the outside of its leaf and the stripe on the front is none faint, . This depends on how much lophantha is in the mix. This is what I understand from listening to some guys more knowing than me. I have called my A.lophantha "Agave lechuguia before. They are all from the Agave marginata family. I now have a Agave xylonacantha that getss mixed up with these two also. One of my lophantha bloomed a 16' bloom this year....See MoreWhat's wrong with my succulents and cactus?
Comments (2)Hi Adyss. Your plants should be in a faster draining medium. You should be able to water and have the water basically run right through the mix and out again. Also, it looks like they need a lot more light...they are stretching for it. As for your cactus, it looks like it has mealy bugs. I would quarantine it and do a search here on how to treat it. Simply type "mealy bug" in the search bar at the top of this page and a whole host of pages should pop up. Good luck! Nancy...See MoreMy First Cactus and Succulent Sale
Comments (13)Aztcqn, that's beautiful! Thank you for sharing that picture! I appreciate the first-hand care tips. I checked it today and it's in a very coarse, very dry grit-mix, so I'm probably not going to repot it for a while. It will definitely get and stay nice and dry here. When you water yours, do you fully wet it allowing water to drain out the bottom? water it from below? Spritz it? So looking forward to life with this cactus. Maryl, there are great posts on here about the gritty mix. Just do a search on Al's Gritty Mix. He's famous. :-) In case he reads this post, "Thanks, Al, for making my plants a lot happier!" I got my Repti-bark at Petsmart. I got the granite chips at Tractor Supply. I got the medium perlite at my local independent nursery. I got the clay bits from the auto-parts store, a product used to soak up oil in driveways. No, I bring everything in about mid-October. I have a small greenhouse, so some go in there; some go in a spare room on plant racks with artificial lights to supplement window light; and some go out in the barn with an LED plant-specturm light over them. I think I watered the C&S about twice all winter. Everything survived just fine....See MoreValley C & S Nursery: My Favorite Trip
Comments (5)Do not mean to tempt. I go there to give away some of my excess Adeniums and for some reason I always end up w something in my car home. At least I do not have to pay for them. The object of the ordeal is really to down size. Man I wish I could just send them off to everyone on Gardenweb. The owner of this Nursery does shipping all over and he told me that I did not need a Permit to order from the U.S., but I would require a Phyto Cert. from the exporter. I wonder if you can receive plants from here (Canada) also without a Permit and just a Phyto. Cert.? Rick...See MorePagan
